  1. Victron Orion starting too quickly?

Right, so if I did what I suggested - set Vstart to, say 16V and raise Vstart(delay) to, say, 14V, that should work nicely: a 120s delay before the charger starts and, given those graphs above show in practice it hardly every drops below 14.4V, then I should be charging pretty much all the time...
  2. Victron Orion starting too quickly?

Here are two I prepared earlier. A benefit of having VRM enabled..... one is of a few short journeys in a day. The other includes some longer journeys. My van does in theory have start-stop technology fitted, but like many owners report, it hardly ever seems to do it. Voltage while running...
  3. Victron Orion starting too quickly?

Mulling it over. Wildebus' suggestion would require the Vstart to be raised to, say, 16V to ensure that the Orion used the Vstart/tsart (delay) parameters, but that would be ok. Except that the reason Victron have the (delay) parameters is that smart alternators apparently run at much less than...
  4. Victron Orion starting too quickly?

I think what I'm seeing is how Victron intended it to work, given the parameters. I just think I'd prefer to stress the alternator less on startup so I'll have a think about Wildebus's suggestion. A bit of reading suggests that the Orion can draw well in excess of its 30A rating when it starts...
  5. Starting vith a half charged battery.

No. The smart shunt is passive and monitors what it thinks is going on. The batteries and chargers work out between them when to charge or not. That's my understanding anyway
  6. Victron Orion starting too quickly?

I think I've been misreading the manual (though I do think it's ambiguous). It says: Start voltage (Vstart): At this level charging starts immediately. Default: 14V. Delayed start voltage (Vstart(delay)): Smart...
  7. Victron Orion starting too quickly?

Interesting. Do you mean you've got a smart alternator but set it to "regular"? That was dull. Mostly the LBs were in good enough state such that the MPPT was generating enough on its own. But I did find a few instances where there was current flowing to the LBs in excess of the solar current...
  8. Victron Orion starting too quickly?

No, I turned off the engine after a couple of minutes (the starter voltage trace shows what I did), but it was decaying by itself before then (or maybe the alternator was having a sulk and not supplying current - who knows?)
  9. Victron Orion starting too quickly?

Good idea, but no, it's been enabled for months. I only disabled it the other week while I was investigating this. Hmm. Maybe I should spend more time on the VRM traces, but the few checked in the last couple of months weren't helpful because we'd been on EHU before setting off, so if there was...
  10. 12v issues please help! Half working electrics

Sorry if you've covered this - have you measured voltage at the lights themselves? Maybe you've got a larger than expected volt drop in the lighting cables? Then they might not fire until you get a much larger voltage going to them. Have you tried a buck-boost voltage regulator with them?
  11. Victron Orion starting too quickly?

I've been tracking down an issue I had with the van on Dec 7th. I went to start it after it had been sitting for a few weeks to give it a run and charge the batteries. It started fine, but after a couple of seconds, the engine faltered, almost stalled then picked up. As it did so, the engine...
  12. For Victron OS systems - Ruuvi Sensors

    Yep, me too.
  13. Battery Resting Voltage

Don't think it's actually got light here today. Black cloud and gloom all day.
  14. Bloody Stixall Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

I used a non setting sealant, Dekaseal 8936, on my windows on someone's recommendation and it was great. It comes in various colours, not just black. I would have used it on the rooflights, but I had them 'professionally' fitted - the only thing I outsourced apart from the upholstery - and it...
  15. Starting a new build- Need insulation, for noise and heat.

I haven't seen the 'managed cavity' idea, but I get the point. Where would the condensation drain to? I suspect it won't evaporate fast enough to avoid the need for drainage. It's not what I did, so I can't offer actual experience: I used 25mm PIR as well, sometimes 50mm where it would fit. I...
  16. Starting a new build- Need insulation, for noise and heat.

Suggest try before you do it. I have a Relay with swivel plates fitted and the pedal height etc is just right for us
  17. VRM updates

Have to see what Father Christmas brings me :) I'll let you know if I get lucky. We think we spend lots on our vans, but it's nothing compared to boats: one guy was interested in the discounts for 10+ sensors... Another guy said he needed multiple Venus GXs because the boat was too big for all...
  18. VRM updates

To be fair, they specifically excluded open source stuff from the scope of the webinar
  19. VRM updates

Mostly, I think, geared at people with more complicated set-ups: multiple battery banks, dozens of sites to manage and so on. One little nugget I suppose is that they will shortly support a humidity sensor (from these people https://ruuvi.com/) which is quite neat. But otherwise I didn't get...
  20. VRM updates

The Victron webinar was a bit underwhelming I thought. Though I liked the new 'dark' design. Was there something for us motorhomers that I missed?
