  1. Is this normal? Absorption to float transition

I think storage mode is intended to stop you over-charging a basically full battery, as I understand it. So if you have some gear on, even if only 300-500mA, then I guess Storage ought to be not needed, as you suggest. But there again, the Victron designers seem to think you do. I guess it's...
  2. Is this normal? Absorption to float transition

Thanks, interesting observation. I tried restarting the Multiplus but it just went immediately to storage mode. Curiously, we had some rare sunshine this morning and the MPPT sprang into life. The Multiplus gave way, as is usually the case, and basically stopped charging, but the MPPT decided...
  3. Is this normal? Absorption to float transition

It actually went into storage mode, according to the Multiplus. Settled at about 13.3V and a gradually reducing current. I think that when the current has stopped reducing I'll regard the batteries as well and truly charged. I'm not sure what the little spikes are caused by - possibly the...
  4. Bloody Stixall Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Someone on another forum who's done more of this than me said that all rooflights will inevitably leak at some point - it's a when not an if. Cheery thought. But I would have hoped for >5 years, I think. Do you think the Stixall became porous, or do you think the metal surface rusted away under it?
  5. Earth 2 van

Think I'd want ring/spade connectors for these too, rather than screw terminals, personally, irrespective of the current capacity.....
  6. Is this normal? Absorption to float transition

I've just brought the van home to give its batteries a good charge and I've been looking at the VRM traces. See below... The Multiplus was in absorption mode for about 30 mins and then switched to float. But when it left absorption mode the charge current was still around 30A. I thought that...
  7. VRM updates

Right. As it happens I'm already signed up to that Victron seminar. I can't see any changes at all to the guts of VRM so maybe the seminar is telling us what's going to happen.
  8. VRM updates

Not on mine, it doesn't. Do you need to refresh in some way? I noticed VRM didn't work for a day, presumably while they were doing the update, but it looks the same now as before....
  9. Starting a new build- Need insulation, for noise and heat.

I can't add much to the spray debate (other than to say I chickened out of doing it) but I might pick up on not bothering with insulation on the floor. My current self build has two floor levels: the lower has 25mm insulation, then ply, then Altro. The higher bit (where we sit and sleep) has a...
  10. Victron Orion

Done it and as @wildebus confirmed, makes no difference to LB current so must have been taking it's idle/standby current from the VB.
  11. Victron Orion

...which I just have. Is there any reason not to disable it via VC? It says for 'maintenance purposes only' but I can't see the significance of saying that. I could wire the external link with a switch, but it's just as easy to use VC. Is there any practical difference between breaking the link...
  12. Victron Orion

I was under the impression (from the data sheet) that the AMT drew next to no power (<2mA) so I wasn't worried about being able to turn it off. Is that right? And anyway, I want it on, because it keeps my vehicle battery topped up from the LBs. So maybe I need to find the best way of disabling...
  13. Few pics of my Iveco bus

Looks nice and cosy. We have one in our house and it's just awesome. I don't want to be Mr Miserable, but have you got a carbon monoxide alarm?
  14. Victron Orion

So I'm definitely in the right ball park. When I've got an hour to spare I'll trying turning things off one by one, until only the smart shunt is left (I forgot that from my list - but it's stated to be <1mA). I'm just curious. My 12V devices are all off (isolation switch...) and the radio is...
  15. Victron Orion

Right, I might experiment and turn the charger off to confirm what happens. But the van is a mile away up a rough farm track, so the incentive needs to be good! I'm seeing a steady 300mA draw on the LBs (though for some strange reason it was 400mA last night.) I have connected: MPPT 25mA Orion...
  16. Victron Orion

Random question...I'm just making sure I can account for the current draws I'm seeing when my van is parked up in storage. I see from the data sheet for the Orion the "no load current" is specified as "<80mA" and the "Standby current" is "<1mA". I'm probably being dense, but what's the...
  17. Not a self building question, but one for the electrical guru's

Are you thinking of the OLEV grant? It's up to £350 in England but yes, it's only available until the spring. Cynic that I am, the price minus the £350 seems about right to me....
  18. Not a self building question, but one for the electrical guru's

I believe (not having tried it yet - my car is due in a week or so) that most charge points belong to a provider. The easiest way to use them is if you have an account with the provider. If not, you might have to work out how to pay. This might be as simple as finding a payment page (assuming...
  19. Not a self building question, but one for the electrical guru's

I've got a Volvo on order. Volvo originally had a deal with Newmotion to install charging points, but their lead times extended massively and so with Volvo's support I switched to Pod Point. They are installing next week. Another factor with the choice is where you recharge if you're out and...
  20. V5 Motor Caravan

No, two new windows on the other side. Annoying when there's vans like these Hymers driving around:
