    Bus or Van?

My conversion is an ex welfare bus. The Windows I didn't use were painted gloss black inside, then insulated with 50mm rockwool type matting. Over that I clad them with 8mm t&g planks then stained them all dark mahogany. No condensation issues as yet & soon warms up with the night heater. Some...

    Isolator Question

That's all my problem was, been stood a while & taken some pretty hard frosts too. Usually cracks straight up especially if used regularly. Cold weather is not your friend....!😕

    Isolator Question

Reckon the cable is similar to the red one in the centre of the picture. Probably not quite as thick as my jumper cables...

    Isolator Question

My start battery is wired as normal, then a thick red cable goes from there to the leisure batteries at the back. The leisure batteries are then earthed to the chassis under the bed at the rear. Looks to be an inline fuse under the bonnet same brand as the tail lift (ricon) then the midi 80amp...

    Isolator Question

Was hoping for your input mate thanks. Back to a fresh 80amp fuse then. If I get a flat battery again, sounds like I should isolate the LBs first, then jump start as normal. Would that sound reasonable? Thanks again.

    Isolator Question

I have 2x 110ah leisure batteries which are charged via the original power supply cable for the now removed tail lift. Currently the cable runs from the starter battery & through a heavy duty isolator as used on rally cars etc. When the isolator is open the batteries don't draw off the main...

    Bit of encouragement needed

I'm only 52 but pretty knackered from a lifetime of self abuse! (Working out in all weathers, motorbikes in the winter etc) but I had a blast doing my conversion this year. Took from Jan to Aug & a buddy of mine was drafted in for a lot of the low level stuff as I don't bend like I used to!😣 Got...

    Mitsubishi Fuso/Canter

Usually if cab doesn't tilt, engine access in this layout of vehicle is via a removable panel under the middle seat or above the engine. Makes servicing etc awkward but usually means as the cad area is right out at the front of the vehicle, the load area can be made longer. Horses for courses...

    Mitsubishi Fuso/Canter

Plenty self builds have this issue, my bus has 3 steps up into it but not a big issue. Left the bus handrails in place too so really easy to get in/out...

    Mitsubishi Fuso/Canter

Weather it was second hand or brand new the engine location would still put me off. If it isn't a problem then the actual mechanics of the conversion would be no harder than any other van I reckon. Don't reckon reliability would be an issue if new, haven't heard of any glaring faults with them...

    Mitsubishi Fuso/Canter

Reckon the bus option is best, windows, night heater & much of the insulation sorted already along with enough width for a transverse bed & a flat floor too. ...

    Mitsubishi Fuso/Canter

Lot of the low loader Luton type vans seem to have the standard steel bolt in bulkhead behind the seats, assume you can unbolt this & be left with a sealed walkthru type setup. Swap passenger bench out for a single seat & you're sorted.

    Mitsubishi Fuso/Canter

Not so much the cab back that's the problem, more the fact that on a forward control layout you're sat at the side of the engine hump. Not impossible, it with my limited mobility just makes it hard work. Your sprinter based van will have a flat floor layout which is much easier to navigate....

    Mitsubishi Fuso/Canter

Wouldn't fancy any vehicle that wasn't "walkthru". The idea of not being able to easily access the driving seat from the hab area would be a deal breaker for me.....

    Automatic?

Was looking at a lwb Sprinter automatic yesterday. V plate high roof minibus. Had a respray 3 yrs ago & sat in the guys yard ever since. No rust coming through the paint & looks half tidy. Guy told me he's had it advertised a couple of times over the last 3 yrs & never got a single response. 2.9...

EBAY Find - EX Library Van

Well I like it! Its so ugly its cute... Reckon a library would be a good base, lot of work already done, but my ideal conversion is probably a little more unconventional than most folk....😉
