    Victron MPPT Output in Watts

I don't think I've looked at solar irradiation with respect to solar panels and just assumed that the panel test figures where never achievable. Well, from looking at this Link it would appear it is. As a solar panel is a semiconductor it should be possible calculate the output gain for change...

    Victron MPPT Output in Watts

So, how do you get more out than on the label? It was the first proper sun of the day, it had been raining and there was a breeze, so the panel temp was probably about 8*C. Do we ever get the sun strength here in the UK that the panels are tested at? Does anybody else ask themselves these...

    Victron MPPT Output in Watts

This is the output from my solar panels today at midday. MPPT A is two Victron 175W monocrystalline panels in series and they show 369W. MPPT B is two Renogy 50W monocrystalline panels in series and they show 105W. If the values can be believed that's not bad.

3-Way Fridge running on AC in a Motorhome - Power Consumption Test

Today at 51.33792° N, @ 15:43 my 450W of solar is producing ~335W which is running the inverter for the fridge, supplying the parasites and putting 2A into the battery. SoC now 99.3%. Not bad. Drove down from Hereford this morning so battery was at 99% when we arrived. I have set the fridge...

    Turbo-charging Motorhome Electrics

I have probably watched the video about 3 times, it seems so long-winded. After the first viewing I had to watch it again as I thought I'd missed the point. Also I do use Victron USB-VE.Direct leads in the van. The latest are an improvement as they have a wire lead from the RPi to the FTDI...

    Turbo-charging Motorhome Electrics

I'm sat here thinking "why"? Just chuck out the lead based batteries and go with lithium. It's like the guy on the boat has realised he's bought into outdated technology and is now trying to convince others he hasn't. Lithium charges faster, weighs less, has a better charge efficiency, and on...

I work on the theory that battery heaters aren't required as if they freeze I'll be frozen to death anyway 😉

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Our fridge/freezer is a Thetford N3150 series which is left in Auto mode most of the time. On gas it reignites the gas for every cooling cycle. It would appear, and I take this from the BMV that the solar can be producing a charger equal to that of the inverters demand and the battery will take...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Surely, when the fridge temperature rises above x*C a cooling cycle is requested. So if the only source was gas every time the a request was made the igniter lights the gas and the burner stays alight until the temperature within the fridge drops below x*C. The next time the igniter lights the...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Regards reigniting:- I'm not using ECO mode. If the battery SoC is >=76% the igniter does not spark and it goes straight to 230V electric. Once the battery discharges to 75% the fridge switches to gas and the igniter does its thing as it would if just on gas. The fridge is unlikely to switch...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Well yesterday was a good 'worst conditions' day, with the 450W of solar putting about 1.5A into the battery and I would guess there was another 1A going to supplying the two RPi's and the router. So at a guess the 1% of battery capacity (76% down to 75%) powered the parasites and the fridge...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Today has been a day with little sun so the batteries had to rise from there night time low of 67.1% up to 76% before the inverter would run to power the fridge and then deplete the batteries down to 75%. At 75% the inverter goes off and and we have to wait for them to charge to 76% again. The...

3-Way Fridge running on AC in a Motorhome - Power Consumption Test

Nice detailed explanation. At the moment my inverter switches OFF at a 75% SoC and switches back ON at 76% SoC. I am trying to get the gap (1%) as small as possible to use as much battery as possible. With so much sun, the fast charging of lithiums and 450 watts of solar panel things are...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Yes I could swap to Eco once below 75%, I'd just have to add a relay to isolate the fridge from the 230 as you have. The Rpi GPIO pins are available and these could switch the relay. That requires the MK3-USB lead I guess. I think the EasyPlus is on the cards, not today though, need to...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

@wildebus I've looked at the 12/1600 EasyPlus manual but can't make out if there is VE.Direct or VE.Bus or some other communication available between it and a GX device available?

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

For info to others, the Off/Eco/On can be controlled from the Remote Console: as my Phoenix is connected to my RPi/GX via VE.Direct-USB. I run the Venus/Cerbo GX Large Image version of the GX software on an RPi 4, this includes Node-Red. @wildebus I could switch between the different modes...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

I run our 3-way Thetford fridge freezer on a Victron 12/500 inverter. I tried running the inverter in Eco mode which reduces power consumption in the off periods but the sample rate in this period needs to be quite short or the fridge initially ignites on gas and then goes to inverter. Also, if...

    Mixing Solar panels

I don't think anybody needs to worry but after spending a fortune on panels and controllers it would be sickening to find some of that expensive energy was being used to heat a shaded panel and not charge your battery!
