    Victron VE.Direct alternative lead

If you don't wish to buy Victron's VE.Direct to USB lead which costs about £25 here is a cheap alternative. I have tried this Serial Converter with a RPi 3 running the Venus software and a couple of Victron devices and it works perfectly (or it has for me). Just three wires from the Victron...

    My New Website

I took a look at Smartsolar MPPT 100/30, does the link to the data sheet display as you'd expect? This is on an Android phone using Google browser.

That's better, it always seemed a bit off when visiting the old site wiithits broken images.👍 Now, you only need to sort out Ablemail's web site for them 😉

Diesel Heater Fuel Burn Totaliser RPi/Ardunino

The Arduino has the issue of not remembering the last fuel level when it's switched back on, unless you intend to leave it on all the time. If you add an SD card you could write the count value to a .txt file each pump pulse, then on start read the .txt file back and carry on decrementing.

Diesel Heater Fuel Burn Totaliser RPi/Ardunino

I don't have a diesel heater but would guess the pump is pulsed by the controller with 12v. Arduino's have either 5v or 3.5v digital inputs. In its simplest form a divider of two resistors to reduce the 12v down would give you a signal to count. If the Arduino had an SD card attached the...

Diesel Heater Fuel Burn Totaliser RPi/Ardunino

I use an RPi running the Venus ported code. From memory: To this I added an MCP3208 ADC which gives tank levels etc. and set its Vref to 1.8 volts. Arduino outputs 0 to 5v for PWM (on an UNO) so simple resistor divider to loose 3.8v, therefore 1.2v for full tank, 0v for empty. The Venus -...

Diesel Heater Fuel Burn Totaliser RPi/Ardunino

Saw your post and knew I'd looked at this only a few weeks ago. The code below was written for an Arduino to simulate counting pump pulses and then fool a Victron Venus GX into displaying tank level. Using PWM the voltage level drops, this would normally be across the sender. I hope some of it...

Victron Energy + Raspberry pi Physical installation of components, How to achieve it ???

To read analogue devices using a RPi, search on the Victron Community forum. You could look at the stetson hat for the Pi https://community.victronenergy.com/articles/38710/victron-raspi-hat.html . I have no experience with this. I do analogue with an MCP3208 ADC connected to the Pi but it's...

    Violating a Princess!

I've no idea of size but is that something that could be 3d printed a lot easier (if you have a printer)?

    Not a Self-build, but a Tweaker

@wildebus Having little to do today I thought I'd read this thread again and read up on lead carbon batteries. When it comes to charging lead carbon the float voltage is given but there seems little info on Bulk charge voltage, although I don't think I've seen the term Bulk mentioned. David...

    Turbo-charging Motorhome Electrics

The difference between national grid and a 'non national grid' supply can be due to the way the earth is derived. With my Phoenix I can change the earth connection internally from the default, which is mid supply, to the neutral line.

Could be interesting for those worried about diesel heater noise.

Would some of the heat from the diesel heater which gets into the Truma be wasted heating water in the combined boiler? Due to limited space in our van I would look to mounting a diesel heater outside. The boxes for heater are as much as the Chinese heater!

    RPi Venus/Cerbo GX tank measurement

Info to connect MCP3208 ADC chip, this is a rough and ready circuit using the minimum of resistors and capacitors. Some parts of this drawing are imported from the links I supplied above. (Untested: For use with Venus or Cerbo possibly only the 270R and a capacitor are required with the Arduino...

Could be interesting for those worried about diesel heater noise.

I would love a diesel heater as an alternative to our Truma blown air system. Is it just the challenge or the fact the Truma seems to struggle to do a good job when it's cold? Also if using gas well I may as well open the tap and let it vent to atmosphere ;)

    New Build

In this time of global warming shouldn't we be be using 100% solar and using our 240 volt hook up to make up for anything the solar can't do? In this crap British climate solar will never be a 100% alternative in 2020, in my opinion. Shame the solar and EHU aren't combined. Now 2...

    RPi Venus/Cerbo GX tank measurement

Well it's still a bit wet for working on the van with the doors open and after a conversation with another member I thought it was about time to get tank measurement working on a Raspberry Pi running Victrons Venus/Cerbo GX ported software. Luckily my eBay purchase, an MCP3208 ADC chip, turned...

    WAS-201EC-UK

I bought some relay boards that trigger at 3.5v (gpio output level). I've little experience with Alexa, ask her "what's my wife's name". There's that and Google something (I'll get there one day 😂).
