    Layout/storage ideas?

Thanks for replies. Idea so far, is for three belted seats, two single beds, which can join up to make one bed. Not sure I'll go for 180 litres of water, that space is for beer and wine :p. Rough plans so far.

    Layout/storage ideas?

Will be converting another MWB Sprinter. Any pictures or links to layout and good storage ideas you have come across, all greatly appreciated, as of course are any DIY tips, including, don't be daft and get a professionally converted van. :)

    Pop top for Sprinter.

Perfect. Thanks very much. Looks like the roof on one in Autotrader, didn't know who made it though. Will be putting on a low roof Sprinter. £2664 compered to €13000 for the Custom Campers one. lol

    Pop top for Sprinter.

Custom Campers one is ugly, but very nicely made. Huge money too. Custom Campers - VW-Crafter 4x4 Compact

    Pop top for Sprinter.

Cheers, I've looked at Reimo but they only appear to do high tops for the current Sprinter. Will look again. Thanks.

    Pop top for Sprinter.

Does anyone know of any companies that do an elevating roof for a Sprinter. Found one in Germany and another in Spain, bit of a way though.

    Van choice

Bear in mind payloads with any of the extra long vans. If they are based on 3.5 tonne models they may have a payload of less then 1000Kg, will leave you a bit short of payload by the time it's converted. The model number will give the GVW usually, and all will be available with 4.5 T or 5 T...

Floor Insulation - as in UNDER the floor. Can anyone advise please?

I think you are probably right. My van warms up very quickly, open the sliding door for 5 seconds and all the heat as gone, lol. I won't be blocking off the rear doors on the next van. :)

Floor Insulation - as in UNDER the floor. Can anyone advise please?

Have thought about insulating that way too. I just wonder how long most insulation would last having road grit, mud, etc chucked at it, and being soaked for long periods. No doubt there will be a suitable product, but you can bet it's a fortune.

Cutting out windows, skylights. Before or after insulation and boarding . . ?

I too thought insulation was basically about trapping lots of little pockets of air. Rockwool is used as cavity insulation too, it's supplied like ripped up bits of rockwool about the size of a finger nail.

Cutting out windows, skylights. Before or after insulation and boarding . . ?

I'd be checking that on their data sheets, could be right, but years ago the denser one was for acoustics, or sound insulation. Not they have products for each and both.

What, if any 4x4 base vehicle?

A few Mitsubishi 4x4 campers around as well.

What, if any 4x4 base vehicle?

T3' Syncro's are great, but will probably end up costing more then a T4 Syncro. T3's are better off road, but won't make any difference for snow covered roads.

Any excuse for a pic :)

What, if any 4x4 base vehicle?

Mercedes Sprinters are available as 4x4, new or loads on Ebay. If you prefer the VW Crafter, you'll have to go to Europe to get a 4x4. All ages of VW Transporters available as 4x4, again loads on Ebay, etc. Ford Transits also available, as are Fiat Ducato, but rare in UK. None of those are...

    Flight cases.

Just a lot of umming and aring at the moment. The standard Sprinter 4x4 is fine, but if you want to go a stage further, you need to go aftermarket. The low ratio on standard ones is to high, you have to rely on ABS for very steep descents, which surprisingly has been fine most the time, and it...

    Flight cases.

Planning (dreaming ) layout for a new van. A lot of the German expedition converters make all their stuff with aluminium extrusions, bit like making a load of flight cases I suppose. Whats the advantage of this? Or is it just looks. Is it stronger, lighter, or both. Can you use thinner ply using...
