Wouldn't do the caravan. Off road box trailer, room for a quad, loo and shower. Extra 100 litres diesel 100 water. Ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Yes, wouldn't get the extended one, but would consider the LWB for next van, unless I come up with a layout that miraculously gets everything in a MWB 😆 , or MWB and trailer, haven't made mind up yet.

Plus VAT? I reckon the one in the video , new now over £60000 here, add the options that are standard in US, auto, aircon etc wouldn't be surprised if you'd be far off £70000, including VAT

Biggest trouble with Sprinters is the sides curve so much, so one of the narrower vans to start with, but even narrower at head height. $55000 seems a huge amount for kitting out, but $110000 for the whole lot is on par with buying off the shelf conversion.

Watched one or two of their videos before, but unfortunately I can't listen to them for too long. 😆 New Sprinters are a lot more in Europe than US, you won't get that van new here for £55000. I know how much they spent, but haven't been through all vids in detail to see exactly where it went...

What about this as a base vehicle ?

That would make a great conversion.

Apart from the sevel vans, are any vans wide enough for a full size bed past the ribs

Don't forget that when window flares are fitted to both sides, you need to change the slider hinge.

    Mercedes 518 base van

Fine base for a motorhome. GVW 5 tonne I expect. Theres a reason I don't work out MPG :p although that may well do more than mine.

is 7 metres to long for rural europe ? Need help with van dimensions

Yes, bet theres hardly any discount to be had on new shape. If you like exploring, may be worth considering the 4x4 option, especially if you intend being up mountains in the winter. May even be a few demonstrators going cheap with the new model round the corner. Brakes have improved hugely on...

is 7 metres to long for rural europe ? Need help with van dimensions

This bloke has some good vids of places to explore in the alps in LWB Sprinter :) https://youtu.be/-fpmXWRtCro

is 7 metres to long for rural europe ? Need help with van dimensions

Depends what you mean by explore, :p but if theres tarmac down you'll be fine in all the panel vans you mention, including the Sevel vans in 90% of places. Most of the passes in the alps have very generous length restrictions although I do remember 1 with a 4.5M restriction. Still do able...

    Helpful video on insulation.

No, not the other way round. Slumping of Rockwool is another issue completely. Plenty of reports suggest de-gassing of these products results in lose of insulation properties. Could well be they last long enough for what most people want in a van, it's highly unlikely they will performing any...

    Helpful video on insulation.

Came across a good video on insulation. Might be helpful to DIY'ers. Although I do have it on good authority that kingspan/celotex types of insulation do deteriorate over time. I'll also add this "good authority" is a Rockwool installer, so make of it what you will. https://youtu.be/hDZBJw7cV2U

    Rear bunk beds?

Mate did similar rear bed layout in his Sprinter. 4 belted seats, sleeps 3. The Scopema is probably the nicest r&r bed, also the most expensive. As far as I know belted seats don't need to be tested, some are some aren't, but none of them are tested fitted in the range of vehicles, it's just...

    Rear window help

Had solid doors on previous van, new one has factory fitted windows, because I put the kitchen in the back. I do like the extra light, it's not hard to make really thick curtains for insulation, though they will never be as well insulated as a solid door. Wash/wipe keeps a bit of the window...

What are the most important items needed in a campervan

I'd reconsider with the loo. Even if it's just a wee little cube porta potti. Otherwise you are cutting down your options, i.e. staying overnight in a town. You never know if you'll be ill, eaten something dodgy etc. Even if you hardly use it, it's nice to know you have one. The options can be...

Heating the van with the gas hob

Been thinking of doing something similar. How long did the bricks hold heat for? My diesel heater is either chucking out so much hot air, it turns the van into a sauna, or it's a luke warm draft. I should have put more outlets in.

Heating the van with the gas hob

Depends how you intend to use it. Last van didn't have heating, so used the hob to heat up van, but only for short periods. If a proper heater is in the budget, it does make sense to fit one. It's more comfortable and who wants to sit around and relax with the hob on. In fact you probably won't...
