AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Compressor fridge won't be bothered about level providing that it's not almost flat on its back/side/front where oil can migrate out of the compressor and cause "slugging" as it enters the condensor/evaporator... Or to a point where a piston type (rather than scroll type) is trying to pump oil...

Ours is under the passenger seat (swivel) (transit Jumbo) with pump mounted externally under the drivers side on a rubber mount... If you listen hard you can just hear the fuel pump click....

    Esparcher night heater installation

Red diesel AFAIK is almost if not identical to white diesel just with a dye/chemical trace added.. I Know folks that reckon they have run their eberspacher on veg oil.... but frankly I'd not bother (tried it for a while in one of the Landrovers powered by a, 2.5 tdi... and I wouldn't bother...

    Esparcher night heater installation

Frankly the only viable reason for having a separate tank is IF you want to use a diesel Eberspacher in a petrol vehicle .... other than that a separate tank is just pfaff and unneeded complication .... A diesel Eber uses so little fuel if you are wanting to run it on red you would be better...

    24v system

Well I'm obviously missing the bit that's different from me only having anything drawing off ONE of the starter batteries on the FFR (it's all 24v via 2 x 12v batteries )when the engine was running ... Nothing drawing when it wasn't running with me in the vehicle .... Not to worry though .

    24v system

Can only go from my experience of trying it on my FFR ....only used the 12v to run sat nav/lights etc when the engine was running ... Result was £100 odd quids worth of knacked battery shortly afterwards ... possibly coincidence BUT, I'll not be chancing it again . Same goes when replacing 1...

    24v system

Not good practice to draw from only one battery ... i did it for a short while on my 24v FFR landrover and it soon knackered one of a pair of new lucas batteries ...as the battery NOT being drawn from will try to discharge into the one you are drawing from Far better to go the proper route ...

Can you use idling engine/alternator as a generator?

Not necessarily via the vehicle alternator /inverter... a log of the utility companies service vehicles have a 240 or 110v alternators driven by the engine.. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F253214563045 Some also have engine driven...

AND smell depending on what it's been used for for the same reason as above,Some of the ones i have worked on the fridgepacks of stank beyond description when not...

Can you use idling engine/alternator as a generator?

I'm my experience the only chance of a diesel 'running away' is that the oil seals on the turbo are so worn that the engine begins to ingest its own lubricant.... (the turbo impellor has a pressurised oil supply to its bearings) As plenty above have said a spot of idling here and there...

Can you use idling engine/alternator as a generator?

As above .... The impression I got regarding wind turbines from the folks i spoke to was that they needed to be at a decent height AND ideally in clean air ....neither of which is easily achievable on the back of a van . They also needed to be of a decent size AND of a good quality (cheap =...

Can you use idling engine/alternator as a generator?

We have 2 X 100w solar panels on the roof and a Durite voltage sensing split charge relay charging 3 x 100ah leisure batteries.... As we tend to move about a bit we don't struggle for power even being all electric cooking wise.

Can you use idling engine/alternator as a generator?

I considered a wind generator BUT in the end I discounted the idea as, most folks I spoke to actually using them reckoned they were inherantly noisy AND needed a howling gale to get any decent amount of charge.

Can you use idling engine/alternator as a generator?

Why not... we are all electric, no gas supply on board Solar does most of work (in winter split charge shoulders most of work as we drive around)
