    Generator talks

Generator outputs can be horrible, both at high and low load. I wonder if your chargers behave the same on domestic mains? They just might be objecting to what your shoving in their bums!

    Not a Self-build, but a Tweaker

This is what I’ll do, but with 12 volts charging 24 Volts. I think I’ll also try some foldable solar panels hanging on the side of the bus into a dedicated mppt. Should work for a few hours if the sun is out.

This is something I have to change, I charge my starter battery via an inverter and battery charger. Run from the habitation battery :( This time of year really shows it up.

I'm impressed by your solar harvesting ;)

It's just a door!, but still a lot of work.

A few years ago we met up with Cambrian friends in France. They used a power tool on stabilizing legs. Noisy buggers!

Not a self building question, but one for the electrical guru's

I'm fearful of the idea of a smart meter. The longer I can avoid it the better. I think many houses will end up with battery back ups for when your supplier disconnects you from the grid. :(

Few pics of my Iveco bus

Just remember it will need a cold air supply, unless it's ducted to the fire it will bring cold air into the van. Same problem with cheap old houses, the floor can freeze your toes. Posh houses have a duct under the floor to the fire.

I must be doing something wrong as I’m never cold in Murky’s bed. Often I have to turn the heating down.

Few pics of my Iveco bus

Mine is at the front and trouble free. For temperature control the numbers are just that. Set at 15 it’s perfect for sleeping. If the night is warmer than expected it sleeps with us. The amount of diesel used is negligible as is the electricity. The only downside is the noise, but it’s not...

Vaseline on your studs helps, they do have a habit of becoming friends for life. ;)

Now you have shown a closer shot of your mats, I see they are the same ones as in Murky. I like the idea of the studs, I was planning on doing that for the drivers mat in Betty.

    Generator talks

This was to generate mains electricity via some kind pre electronic alternator. Switched mode chargers like the victron ones are impressively efficient. I guess the only way to tell if a generator is up to spec. Is to put a resistive load on it. Then increase the load until it complains.

    Generator talks

I can’t remember the numbers now, but when we were looking at running off grid the losses in a generator are horrible. Working in calories only about 10% resulted in electricity. The generator was better at making heat rather than electricity. My 1kva generator is rated at 900watts. Using two...

You have one generator your happy with. The bigger one is heavier. Why not get another small one? Seems a cheaper option. And you don’t have to run both. If one dies you still have one.

    V5 Motor Caravan

We don’t want motor homes going faster, just this evening on our camp we saw one approach a blind corner on the wrong side of the road. Two way traffic and a 15mph speed limit. I’d say it was doing over 30mph.
