    Sticky solar panel

Despite what you say Phil, I am still of the opinion, when attaching items such as solar panels to use a belt and braces method of attachment, or in other words a good, high quality stainless steel stud and lock nut as well as of course the carefully managed thickness of adhesive, which in my...

    Calor gas insanity

I too would like to know if there is actually a law, however Phil your sign off sentence copied above I find to be somewhat confusing as surely you ARE talking about standard OTC gas bottles that don't have built in 80% regulated cut offs being refilled at petrol stations? Phil

    Calor gas insanity

This is EXACTLY why I stressed calculating the 80% capacity of a 100% empty cylinder as well as stressing to only ever fill the cylinders very carefully to that carefully calculated figure!!!!! Any hyper important point with any and all commercial cylinders is to religously ensure they are...

    Calor gas insanity

In my Series Land Rover days, I used to be a member of numerous forum/club groups where inumerable members, including myself, used to refill their own bottles. The concensus of opinion was that if the bottles looked to be in 'as new' condition and were not old then as long as you strictly...

    Calor gas insanity

I know you shouldn't, but with the installation in my 'Millie' it is easy to refill proprietory cyliders, just as long as they are totally empty, allowing me to make an accurate calculation as to the 80% capacity. Both when I lived in Wales as well as in N.E. Lincs. both my houses had calor gas...

8mm copper to 10mm plastic water pipe connector??

Many thanks Phil, I have now bought both the 8/10 reduction connectors as well as some more 10/10 connectors from Amazon with delivery tomorrow. Yes a slight cost premium over eBay, however the speed of delivery for me is far more important. The next job for me is to prepare the 8mm pig-tails...

8mm copper to 10mm plastic water pipe connector??

After 8 years of faithful service, my 'Millie' is starting to show her build age in one or two places the most recent one of which is the mixer tap fitted to the shower room sink. The pig tails from the tap are 8mm copper whereas the plastic pipe is 10mm plastic. Back in 2013/14 when I built...

    Yikes - new battery price

I believe that effect only happens if your vehicle is fitted with the latest re-charge type of brakes. It does for instance on my BMW hybrid car but not on my 2008 Renault Master.

    One very ingenious idea......

This is one very ingenious idea which as a unit could be used in your estate cars, SUV's or even the love of your life van conversions.

    Which one?

It is just the same with cam belt or chain changes, all the garages do is look up what the factory quotes as the hours to do the work and then they charge just the same even if they are doing the damned job in a fraction of the time!!

Are you planning a walk through from the cab?

Well I’ve gone & bought our next van.. although it’s not a van yet!

A brilliant vehicle, but my gaud that is one hell of a self building project, good luck to you and yours........... @Squiffy or @Pudsey Bear might remember the sadly deceased members name who was a very regular and exceptionally gifted self builder when we were all on diymotorhome, he built...

    Thinking about a new build

Facebook Marketplace has a lot of followers and I have seen quite a few older self builds on there. You might want to try Gumtree which is also FREE, you can try it as a free listing or use one of their relatively inexpensive deals to keep it at the top of the lists. I have sold quite a few...

    Which one?

A bit like earlier Renault Megan's that had spot lights set into their front air dam, it took 7 hoursw labour to change a bulb!! There are so many cars which have to have their engines removed to change the cam belts or chains and quite afe few LR's that have to have their bodies removed to...

    Which one?

Have a look out for @Squiffy or yet another Phil, he has built 2 x L4 Sevel vans, but I don't think he has bunks. Are you going to be fitting a shower/loo as well in your build? Phil ps. There is one other type/make of van you might want to consider, how about the (in my opinion) truly...

    Which one?

One of the main advantages of going for one of the Sevel vans is that they have fully galvanised body shells, as such rust won't be the problem it can be on the Sprinter/Crafter combo. As Pudsey has said their width is also a very distinct bonus as is also their very square profile which makes...

Buying a new (to me) van…

Wow what a brilliant base vehicle and I know you will make a brilliant job of converting it having watched your efforts over the past months and years. Good luck at the auctions, simply grab life by the balls and go with your gut instincts. Phil

    Yikes - new battery price

As my parking area is secure I deactivate the alarm because otherwise it is a constant drain on the dear old battery.
