  1. Sale of self built

I was thinking about this the other day. We might sell next spring, depending on one or two things, so the Quirky Campers tip is a good one. But as you suggest: how to value it? Maybe I should look at QC over the winter and try to get a feel for it. You say they don't accept commercial...
  2. Uprating my van weight.

I suppose I feel marginally better for knowing that! But it still rankles.... From time to time I think about re-applying then instantly conclude I've better ways to waste my time!
  3. Emergency leak stopper?

Just saw this and wondered whether to buy a can. Anyone tried it? Suppose you're away in the wilds of somewhere and get a leaking rooflight? Or window? Allegedly slap some on and job done til you get home...
  4. The Bus is for sale

Very keen price, I'd have thought. Should go quickly! PS - just noticed your strapline - "why use one screw when six will do......" I used to know a guy who was an engineer on the railways back in the day and he said their motto was "why use 2 x 4 when you've got 4 x 6 in store"
  5. SBMCC

I was a member for a couple of years and received lots of good and helpful advice. But I gave up when after I'd finished my build any advice (or opinion) I had to offer was rebuffed. I know I'm not an expert, but I'd just completed a van successfully and liked to feel I could be vaguely useful...
  6. Spray foam insulation.

That's what I did, but I also put a bead around the edge and then covered joins in aluminium tape. My attempt at a vapour barrier. I didn't get too carried away, and it wasn't a perfect seal, but I reckon large parts of the van metal are probably sealed off.
  7. Garages

Our van (Citroen Relay-based) is just coming up to 3 years old, so it needs an MOT and, arguably, a service. We called our two nearest Citroen dealers, both of whom we've used in the past, and one of which we bought the van from. Both said they are no longer prepared to service, repair, or MOT...
  8. TANKLESS WATR HEATER

Went down a similar route but couldn't find an instant heater I'd trust (gas) or that would be good enough (electric) with my battery capacity.
  9. Yikes - new battery price

Just to finish the story (hopefully) we've just been away and done about 375 miles and the van has been happily doing start/stop after about 150 of those miles, so I would assume it's happy with the battery. Seems like it needed a really good charge after the winter. Looking at the voltage as...
  10. Advice / Assistance welcome,

I'd be interested to see what they say. It looks like an intelligent bit of kit, able to cope with Euro 6 start/stop vans, so it's expecting the sort of voltage profile they generate. My Victron equivalent uses engine voltage detection to switch on. I reckon if I gave it a steady voltage, such...
  11. Advice / Assistance welcome,

That's good about the EBL. The only instructions I found online suggested it didn't have a Lithium setting, but that could well have been for an older version.
  12. Advice / Assistance welcome,

I read that differently (assuming I understand what the Booster does - it looks like a B2B charger which charges the leisure batteries from the engine battery). I think what they possibly mean is that the EBL is a mains battery charger and that is what they are recommending you to use for 230V...
  13. Advice / Assistance welcome,

My guess would be that a better route might be to get a separate 230V Lithium-compatible mains charger rather than try to step down for the Booster. But you don't mention solar: can you uprate your solar in any way? But you need a proper expert - those are just my opinions!
  14. Well I’ve gone & bought our next van.. although it’s not a van yet!

Awesome project! Doors and windows exactly where you want them - what luxury!
  15. Thinking about a new build

Thanks, I'll take a look. Just going out to 'service' my van after the winter - clean, check water filters, check electrics, check gas etc. I'll see how I feel about selling it then!
  16. Which one?

Hear, hear. Had an oil sensor fail on my previous van (Ducato) and the garage apologised but said the part cost £10 but it was nearly 5 hours labour to actually get to the thing to change it: 4hrs 50 mins undoing and doing up, 10 mins replacing the duff bit.
  17. Which one?

Agree with that. Everyone said "you don't want an H3" but now I've done it they say "it's nice and airy, isn't it? I can stand up in it!" I would admit it doesn't look as neat as an H2, but I'm OK with that
  18. Thinking about a new build

Found it: it was Motorhome Depot. Anyone used them happily?
  19. Thinking about a new build

I'm just starting to mull over a new build. One item on my list is how to sell my current one. Wondered whether people had good or bad stories about any particular route for selling? I saw a post somewhere ages ago about a broker who was highly recommended; not a route I'd have thought of, but...
  20. Yikes - new battery price

Yes, thanks. When I did my build and had to undo the seat belt pretensioner stuff to put in the swivels I'd read that you should disconnect the battery first and follow a procedure like this, so I did and had no problems. But when I took the van to an upholsterer to cover the front seats, which...
