MPPT vs PWM - The Solar Controller Test!

I bolted two unistrut bars lengthways, then two on top across. I found edge clamps on ebay for solar panels on unistrut.

    Connecting heater to diesel tank?

Where we live, there's no mains gas supply so most houses have the oil tanks. I only recently checked prices. For 100L or less you pay about 130p a litre. Buy 1000L and it's down to 45p. I bought a 20L tub to test mine earlier this year and I'm still using the same tub (not been out much). I...

Idiot mistake or common? Shunt connection

Yeah sort of what I said. My solar charge controller also straight to the battery. I didn't read the instructions. I found this diagram today that would have been helpful.

Idiot mistake or common? Shunt connection

I installed a battery monitor with a shunt on the -ve cable a few weeks back. After charging the battery up to full I calibrated the 100% level and thought it was all working fine. I've had my charger on this week and noticed the monitor is showing a small drain, instead of a charge. Although...

MPPT vs PWM - The Solar Controller Test!

After all the reading I've been doing, including this thread, I've decided to replace my solar charge controller. The dead cheap one I'm running may or may not be working well. It's too vague to know. It tells me I'm getting 1.7A from the battery during the day today but it was saying the same...

How to sleep 2 and still have my wheelchair on board?

When I loaned my LDV Maxus to some friends they put a single inflatable mattress across the 3 seats in the cab. Even if you've got a walk-through you could bridge the gap with some support.

Novel way of fitting a radio

Can't fault his ingenuity! I did have a moment recently when a cheap radio I bought arrived with no ISO harness. I didn't break out the heavy machinery though. "Looks pretty damn good to me"

    Self build getting more popular

I think Liam The Terrible mentioned this article in a recent video so it might be new. Shame I can't read all of it.

MPPT vs PWM - The Solar Controller Test!

I'm finding this very interesting. I fitted a cheap (£17.35) charge controller in my van when I started and suspect it's barely worth that much money. I'm probably going to go for a Victron. BTW did you see the YT video by Will Prowse? He had a few of the same models you show here. This is...

What jobs did you do on your van today?

B&Q have a 3-for-2 deal on paint at the moment, so I got some spray paint for my cupboard doors. My wife doesn't like the matt brushed look so I've got gloss cherry red! This is just a sample piece to see if it went on ok.

    Push-to-Open drawer runners - just don't

I've found that if there's not enough pressure on the runner sideways, the latch doesn't grab. If you shut the drawer too hard the back end of the mechanism pops off. If there's too much weight in the drawer it can force it open when travelling. Maybe it's just the design of the ones I bought.

T5 has got the be most expensive small van and least suited for you, which I think is the gist of the other replies?

DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

The graphics requirement is a bit vague still and unqualified. Are they asking for those whoosy shapes and stuff? That was one thing my wife said she specifically hated :) She likes the stripe I added and thought the lettering would be bad until I showed it fitted.

DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

I thought this too Squiffy. My roof is about 50% semi-transparent. I only put windows in for the view out. What qualifies as a high top roof? How about a normal van roof? Is it high enough? I have a van registered as a motorcaravan and just a stripe down the side. Does that make them officially...

    Connecting heater to diesel tank?

I mounted my tank on the inside of a rear door, with enough fuel pipe to allow it to open with the door. It means that when I fill it, any spillage goes on the floor outside.

    Connecting heater to diesel tank?

Just out of interest, apart from a little saving of space, why take the diesel tank supply? You can run a diesel heater off kerosene or red diesel, both of which have much less tax on them.

    Push-to-Open drawer runners - just don't

I bought a whole load of these thinking they would be great. No need to latches and handles. Nice heavy-load versions If they are fitted perfectly they work well. If they're 5mm too far apart they just don't latch! I took a few drawers out of my van this weekend to replace them with a cupboard...

The step for the bed was causing problems. I had made it extending to try to help, but decided the just raise the floor instead. It's not like I'm short of headroom! Work in progress...
