    LDV Parts .

For those who don't understand the LDV van models, might it be a good idea to not only name the model of the van but also the build year?

Stixall tips... I don't want to come unstuck!

Just like Geoff, over the years I have known of numerous people who only use Stixall (or similar) to attach quite heavy items and have lived to tell the tale, but as far as I can recall, I have never read of anyone trying to attach a weighty item such as an awning rail, even if it is...

Roof light yes or no ?

Well Dave, all 3 of the rooflights fitted to 'Millie' are MPK units and they are OK as they do allow in a lot of light as well as also being very useful venting points, even when they are closed. I have used MPK's throughout my 30 odd years of caravan ownership and they were the only units I...

Roof light yes or no ?

Roof lights can quite often result in quite a bit of extra wind noise which is why I installed mine directly behind each other with the solar panel directly in front the result is that 'Millie' suffers from very little wind noise. The photograph taken in my original post was taken before I...

Roof light yes or no ?

As others have written, as far as I am concerned roof lights are a must, I fitted 3 to the roof of 'Millie', my only regret was that I fitted MPK units as they cost significantly less than Heki but they do at lest let in light as well as giving the essential ventilation. And yes, before anyone...

    Van Base - High Roof

£6,900 for that looks to be quite a good deal and with very few knocks and scrapes to deal with. I love my 'Millie' and yes I have to agree with @voyager that the tumble home of the side walls does make the fitting out a bit more difficult than it is with a Sevel made van, the other thing is...

    Which Van

The truly MASSIVE overhang at the back end of the 1st advertised would cause you enormous problems as you would be grounding it on even the slightest incline. The 2nd one looks to be a tremendous vehicle just as long as you would be able to fit enough inside it. Phil

    Which Van

I suppose the way to go is to draw up some plan drawings in which you show all the beds, seating, travelling and sanitary areas and then to plan it out to a body length and then to see what van, library or bus best suits your needs. Phil

    Which Van

Finding a van which is capable of housing and transporting 6 people is an enormous ask, it hence totally rules out any of normal Sevel/Sprinter/Master sized vans. It all depends on how independent you want to be when travelling, if on the one hand you would only ever stop on fully serviced and...

    Quart into a pint pot!!!

Amazing workmanship Geoff, you and your mould making it makes us mere mortals who only play about with timber look like right old dumb clucks!!

    Spare wheel?

I totally agree Phil & Trev, surely you have to have a screw loose not to carry a spare wheel because even if you can't change it, someone else is likely to be able to do so rather than waiting forever and a day for a specialist breakdown service to arrive with a matching tyre.

Having finished the build.....it’s time for a smarten up of the outside.

I now have read through the DVLA information and as a result I admit I was wrong. I have also seen that poor old Darren has a few things to get done before he can start his amazing European adventure, good luck. Phil

    Took the plunge

Don't you have any friends locally in the building trade? When I was doing my conversion I actually set up a cash trade account with the largest independent builders merchant after first of all negotiating the discount against each type/kind of product I would be using and it equated to 60%...

    Took the plunge

As an ex Land Rover Series and Defender owner you need to be very wary for and about the interaction of different metals when they are in contact with each other. But your bus looks to be an absolute corker of a vehicle to undertake your conversion in/on, the only major reservation I would have...

    Old van.

That has to be one of the best van conversions I have seen using a donor caravan and I wouldn't mind betting that it would sell quite quickly when the time came to change.

    Took the plunge

Welcome to our happy fold @Bouydog, it is so heartening to see someone joining us who is at the start of their build. You have bought yourself a mighty good base vehicle, BUT, unless you have already done so I suggest you dive down underneath and thoroughly check for any signs of the dreaded...
