  1. Solar install

Fitted my 3 x 330w Canadian Solar panels today. Used unistrut for the whole project because it's what I had and hard to get hold of things right now. I had to raise them a little higher than the average install because I still wanted to be able to open my sunroof even thought it's covered, so I...
  2. LPG/butane gas hob

Buy a domestic one, probably half the price and they come with LPG jets since most rural locations use propane tanks. Google domino hobs.
  3. John Guest ?

I worked it out as this is a question in need of an answer. I've based it upon a 4 meter run which should be adequate for most vans since we're only talking about the hot water pipe. 15mm volume: 0.71L 10mm volume: 0.31L 8mm volume: 0.2L so you'd have to run through an extra 0.4L of water...
  4. Cable/fuse sizing.....

It is badly worded, but fortunately I have one in a box right next to me now and it doesn't have that ambiguous bit on it. I had one before in an old van and the manual said max 450w of solar and a sticker on the side said max 500w, also the manual says it won't overvoltage until 55v so it seems...
  5. John Guest ?

I used 15mm flexible pex from screwfix/toolstation. They carry a much bigger range of the 15mm push fit connectors, and almost nothing for 10mm. You'll find you'll need to run back and forth a few times for extra bits here and there so it's easier to just go for the most universal fittings. Also...
  6. Cable/fuse sizing.....

Get the ring, they're the best item out there. I think the 'voltage' input just means you can charge a 12v battery from a 24v alternator like in trucks.
  7. Air Suspension - Anyone using it ?

People who buy the ambulances with air suspension rip it out and put leaf springs in. Massive problems with leaks, just not worth the hassle. Probably ok for a few years until things start to perish.
  8. NO VSR / Split charge or anything else !! Cyrix or Battery Protect

It's always the way with these things. My last van was coachbuilt but I still had lots of messing around to do at first.
  9. NO VSR / Split charge or anything else !! Cyrix or Battery Protect

I think it's the white box full of holes with the CE sticker, or maybe this thing:
  10. NO VSR / Split charge or anything else !! Cyrix or Battery Protect

That battery box makes me sad. Write up a to do list and do some decent wiring, it won't take long and it will help you understand it much better if problems arise in the future. Stick a small fusebox in, line the batteries up and secure them from moving with a bit of wood, run some nice thick...
  11. Electric only

Low angles are still a problem even there over winter, but the sun is often shining, all be it for shorter days.
  12. Electric only

They have a horrible efficiency, need to put 140ah back in to get 100ah, something like that. Heavy, old technology.
  13. VW Time Lapse 10 min Pro Build

I think campervans would be half the price if built on a production line like the vans. You can see that's mostly labour costs involved in the build.
  14. Electric only

I've just bought solar panels at 36p a watt, but it was possible to get 33p on the 72 cell ones.
  15. Amazing Ambulance Conversion (US) - REALLY AMAZING

You're sorted, that's plenty of battery life for everything and if you're in a area where you can buy red diesel I'd just leave it.
  16. Amazing Ambulance Conversion (US) - REALLY AMAZING

    Do you have gas though?
  17. Just Spotted This Merc - Looks really good but built by a company

I could never enjoy something so valuable without being so rich money had no value to me. Having fun wildcamping takes you down crappy roads with trees whacking your van - I look at people with brand new 4x4 sprinters and thinking, how could you ever take it off road!!
  18. Amazing Ambulance Conversion (US) - REALLY AMAZING

My electric heater is 1500w which pulls 130amps odd, put on for 1/2 hour it would use 35% of my battery capacity. This takes around 1 hour of driving to replenish, which is kind of the same as having a calorifier, the only difference being that 1 hour of driving is purely to put the power back...
  19. Amazing Ambulance Conversion (US) - REALLY AMAZING

I looked into doing this but was put off plumbing it into the engine, didn't trust my level of competence. What I did question was people describing their use on youtube, you needed to drive for quite a long time for it to heat up, well over an hour, perhaps others here can confirm this? They're...
  20. Plotting and Scheming!

I used the oven in my van twice in 1.5 years for pizza (burnt, twice). Used the grill once. Hob and one pot recipes/ridgemonkeyt is the way to go. Outside BBQ if there's a few of you. Check out the Omina, oven on a hob...
