DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

Just been having a look at various government web sites and it's interesting how they contradict themselves. For example my bus project. The body type is S/D BUS/COACH I don't intend to change the body shape though it will gain doors and loose windows the body shape and look will remain...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

It will be interesting to see how the Victron 12/1200 behaves on the next build.

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

My Victron 12/800 does not hum when running the fridge or even load it enough to start it's internal cooling fan. That said there is a noise on starting the fridge. I suspect the instantaneous on starting is much higher than quoted. Mark

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

I went though this pain trying to find a good inverter to start a domestic fridge. I now run an old victon 12/800 and I think it's only just enough to reliably start the fridge. The new 12/800's are lower wattage so I won't risk one and will use the next size up on the new project. I also...

    12 Volt Heating

This is a posh one with a thermostat. The air intake rotates away from the exhaust.

    12 Volt Heating

The ones I've experienced Phil, had the flue under the vehicle. Mark

    12 Volt Heating

The down side of those heaters is that the fumes can find their way into the habitation areas, they also seem to use a lot of gas for the heat given out. Not experienced one, but I'm told the ones with a built in fan are better at heating.

    Polystyrene insulation- fire risk?

Plaxton were using polystyrene as insulation in 2000, as I suspect most coach builders were and maybe still are. I do wonder when choosing materials as to what is best for safety, durability and cost. My first conversion was finished in varnished plywood. Wow that stuff burns well. I'd...

    Bed Weight?

Looks good. My bed design has funny origins, as it was intended for someone else. There was a design criteria. One feature was that it would have to be able to handle extremely energetic sex! Hence it may look a little overconstructed. As it never got installed I adopted it for Murky. As...

    Bed Weight?

The bed frame is constructed from 1"x 2" x 10g aluminium extruded box. I expect I'll use a company called "Simmal" as they have been trouble free in the past. I estimate I'll need Six 5 meter lengths. They are asking £212.00 plus vat and carriage. Mark

What jobs did you do on your van today?

We've used various rubberised/flexible roof coatings on roofs only to find out it becomes an annual job repainting them. If your roof is still in Gel Coat your lucky being able to recoat it. It is an awkward messy job at best, mainly due to the speed you need to work at. I'd be tempted to...

What jobs did you do on your van today?

Using a top coat resin with some flexible additive would give a long life. With care you can brush a reasonable finish. Don't mix to much at a time as it goes of real fast.

    Testing Miasol solar panels

Yes the size and shape can be off putting. Time will tell if I've been stupid again. If I knew how much better my existing panels would work with the Victron MPPT I might not have purchased them. "Betty" is just long enough to take four of them.

    Testing Miasol solar panels

Not really testing, but the suppler recommends testing them before sticking them down. Kind of makes sense. I have a bad habit of buying things in advance and then forgetting I have them. Can be a nice surprize. I have wondered why I've purchased a second one, or it does not work. The...

    Violating a Princess!

That's why "Murky" has a wet room in the back. It was the work around to avoid being classed as a Goods Vehicle. No rules on how big your shower can be. As with most of this stuff, your fine until challenged. With the seating, if you reduce to 16 seats I think the 8 metre restriction kicks...
