Marking notes on what you've planned.

This had crossed my mind Dave, but due to the evolution of Murky the habitation side of the electrics are not service friendly. Though with the mid point connection it is possible to read it as volts or percentage deviation. Once I get a chance to leave it for a while I'll get a better idea...

Marking notes on what you've planned.

So early results. This morning I saw 24.04 volts on the engine start batteries after being fully charged when parked up yesterday evening. Though it did claim it was 99% charged. Deviation I think was 0.7%. So two Varta LFD90's 50% rule gives 45 Ah at lets say 25 volts being generous. 1.124...

Two of them now Dave. So both being monitored.

Marking notes on what you've planned.

Finally this weekend I've installed a Victron BMV 712. I remember thinking about this many times and coming up with solutions. Unfortunately I forgot the main reason I hadn't done it. I knew the battery cables would be horrible to work on due to the fact the seat, gear lever and handbrake...

    Naughty Battery Chargers.

The new Plaxton build will be getting Victron chargers.

    Naughty Battery Chargers.

Murky has 3 Accumate pro's in it. These were supposed to be smart chargers. They are small, handy cube sized and have a cooling fan. Now the down side. They are not switched mode. They have an internal fuse mounted in the transformer windings! Yes you have to unwind the transformer to...

Carver Cascade gas water heater - anyone fitted one themselves?

I used one for years and they hold enough water for a quick shower. I think there are a few versions, up to possibly being Gas, 12 volts and mains. An Extra wrap of insulation wouldn't go a miss to cut down on gas consumption.

    Naughty Battery Chargers.

Found an older simple transformer rectifier battery charger this morning and that draws 600mA from a charged battery when connected to the battery but not plugged in. :(

    Electric water heaters

An Accumulator tank and an Expansion tank are basically the same thing, it's how they are used that determines the difference.

    Naughty Battery Chargers.

The supply does not make any difference. Though the ones I'm most concerned about are the ones wired into "Murky" Murky's battery chargers are set up so that they can use any mains supply available and be swapped around in the event of a failure. Being "wired in" even when switched of from the...

Do not allow shadows to fall on your solar panels.

Did you make any more progress with this?

    Naughty Battery Chargers.

These just home garage style mains battery chargers. Though the ones I suspect to be worst are intended to be wired in.

    Electric water heaters

Ours is done with just one tap, so that you don't have to heat the engine. As mentioned some time ago by "wildebus" you can also use surplus solar to heat water electrically. Our calorifier has a 500watt element fitted to it to give the generator an easier time as well as people ears. Although...

    Battery Drain

It's all very odd. Only once have I ever been in an under voltage situation where things didn't work until the sun came up. That was before I took the Victron route. I was never convinced my "sunshine meter" was giving useful information or even charging the batteries well. Last year I...

    Naughty Battery Chargers.

Inspired by another post, I thought I would have a look at loading from a switched off battery charger. We have a very small gel lead acid battery used for a door sounder that requires regular charging. Say once a month or so. If we leave the battery charger connected it only lasts a few days...

    Battery Drain

Frightenly when my leisure batteries are 50% discharged, this is the kind of voltage that is seen. The voltage figure is recorded by my Victron BVM. As I'm unable to see a detailed history log I don't know at what loading this takes place.

    Battery Drain

Though when checked with an installed volt meter they generally have some kind of load on them.

    Battery Drain

I'd start to worry at anything below 11.5 volts.

Split Relay / DC to DC for Lifepo4 300Ah

Very good report Dave. I just guessed it would work that way and it's nice to see it proved. Before going solar, the alternator via an inverter would provide all the 240 volts to the habitation needs including a domestic fridge. So when we parked up the leisure battery would be fresh for our stay.

DC AC DC easy and adaptable too.
