Amazing Ambulance Conversion (US) - REALLY AMAZING

The Betty build is going slower than I'd like. I expect I'll be using it until the end of September. We have about 10 thousand miles of trips planned. Your more than welcome to come and have a look if your in the area Robert. We have it back at work now. I'm planning on pulling the head of...

Amazing Ambulance Conversion (US) - REALLY AMAZING

It's only a calorifier, I have one in Murky. Betty is getting one too.

    Violating a Princess!

Not to bad Dave, I intend to leave mine on all the time to keep damp at bay. No electrics as yet, but as it’s going to be all 24volts dc dc converters will be required upping the consumption a bit. Forgetting the cost I expect multiple dc dc converters will make sense depending on how much...

    Violating a Princess!

So finally some construction, the fitting of a Maxxair, Maxxfan. The first job was to remove a layer or two of paint from the glass fibre roof. I was worried about the quality of the bonding of the paint. I didn't want any leaks under the paint. The sanded area was then painted with polyester...

    LF inverter Better Buy ?

I really wouldn't want anything in a motorhome that can pull more than 1kw, not very nice on the batteries.

Disaster management - skylight leaked ceiling ruined

Exterior grade or marine ply is rubbish. Caught that bad cold :( Any framing of an aperture I will now use Buffalo board. The stuff used for truck beds. The wet room in Murky is lined with the stuff after the marine ply failed. The plan was to cover it in vinyl after watching it for a few...

Disaster management - skylight leaked ceiling ruined

This is the point I make about not allowing the movement of air. If the void is sealed it should not be a problem.

Disaster management - skylight leaked ceiling ruined

Anything subjected to moisture will absorb it if it can. Treating before installing any woodwork would make sense.

Disaster management - skylight leaked ceiling ruined

You have to control the movement of air around and under the insulation. Any spacers or battening needs to be waterproof or they can become waterlogged. Also make sure all your insulation are waterproof. Filling the pressed steel ribs with expanding foam should help too, just make sure it’s...

    Violating a Princess!

So this weekend we managed to do a bit more (demolition :( ) to Betty. I mentioned some time ago much of the water ingress into the habitation area was due to the fact the bonding between the windows and body was failing. A few weeks back my window man came to visit and said he was more than...

    Water tanks

Weight doesn’t seem to have much effect on fuel consumption, but the heavier it is the nicer the ride.

    Water tanks

We've yet to fill up with water on our travels. The water is used for showers too.

    Water tanks

At the moment we carry 300 litres plus, I can't remember the exact amount. As the tank was extended it does have one baffle. I've never noticed the weight move when driving. It is quite a deep tank and I guess that helps. Betty's tank will have to be creative to clear various chassis...

    Water tanks

My first Motorhome was a Mercedes 608 panel van conversion. This had a food grade white plastic internal water tank under the sink. The tank developed a leak, wet carpet :( After many attempts at trying to reweld the tank it was found that limescale had built up in the crack making a sound...

    Water tanks

Entry and exit points are important, and you have more choice in the early stages of a build. I'm hoping to start "Betty's" fresh water tank soon. If possible I'm looking for at least 500 litres. So mounting the tank is important too. 1 litre of water weighs 1kg. I've toyed with the idea of...

Running tests on a battery, when is it stuffed?

If your interested in it's useful capacity Phil, a simple test is to connect a 21watt bulb across it and watch the volts drop. If a 21watt drain is not close to your average usage, just a add or remove bulbs to suit. It doesn't take much calculation to work out it's new capacity.

    Water tanks

Personally I prefer a drinking water tank to be made from stainless steel.

    Battery Drain

I removed the regulator pack in mine as it was just over 30 volts at times. The old one that replaced it seems to stop at 29 volts.
