  1. Scotland the Brave

That looks like the Falls of Dochart at Killin. I once visited when the river was in flood and it was a bit scary just standing on the bridge.
  2. 40A Smart Mains Battery Charger for under £15?

That's the way I went after reading comments from others that had done the same thing.
  3. Mechanic Labour Charges, also posted on other forums

I knew someone with a landrover and took it to the main dealer for a repair and the labour rate was £120 per hour.
  4. DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

I was concerned they might even introduce a compulsory vehicle examination at a DVLA centre with a hefty inspection charge. As you mention, there are a high number of applications each month and this would reduce the number of applications but could also improve the standard of conversions in...
  5. DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

Problem is, if you contest a speeding fine you may be asked to prove the vehicle meets the definition of a motor caravan and the only way to do so would be to register it as such with the DVLA. I have previously asked the DVLA how they decide on what speed limits apply to a motor caravan as they...
  6. DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

I thought they were refusing re-classification because they are claiming they look like a van with windows and don't look like a motor caravan - what has that got to do with type approval. So we can basically have 2 identical vehicles and because one has type approval it can be classified as a...
  7. DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

I believe it is 20 working days, so in all approx 4 weeks plus extra allowing for any bank holidays, don't know what happens if they fail to respond in time.
  8. DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

Hi, mate has just pointed out a few posting on a different forum and a couple of conversion have just been accepted so there must be some movement in DVLA stance.
  9. DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

Yes they can be challenged but it just seems a strange system when they don't know the information they need to get it right in the first place.
  10. DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

Okay so the DVLA have replied to my question about they determine the MLW of a particular vehicle and their reply was: "I understand the Police, who are responsible for enforcement of speed limits, make a judgement on the weight of the vehicle from how it looks. I understand this is also the...
  11. DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

According to the DVLA the speed limits are defined by the Maximum Unladen Weight of the vehicle but how does the DVLA know what the MUW is for a converted van. It doesn't show on the V5 document and I am fairly sure they don't ask for the MUW when you apply for reclassification. I wonder what...
  12. DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

In the past they have happily accepted professional panel van conversions and it is in the mindset of everyone that these conversions are motor caravans and this has never been questioned. I can understand them not wanting to accept 'luton van' and 'bus' type conversions as they do not represent...
  13. DVLA requirements for change to motor caravan

It has been mentioned on other forums and on Facebook that according to the DVLA guidance it is a legal requirement to have a vehicle re-classified and the log book changed. If you have converted to the minimum standard as published by the DVLA then how can they refuse. The law has not been...
  14. Tidy Vans with lots of stuff already done ....

Also worth looking at this auction site as it often has ex military vehicles and other interesting stuff. https://whitelabel.globalauctionplatform.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/timed/wca/catalogue-id-witham1-10000?clienturl=wca&archiveSearch=False&page=2
  15. Van Base - High Roof

That is the normal high roof Master. I like the way the Master drives but the conversion is more complicated. A bit hard to describe but the upright ribs in middle of van tend to stick out quite a bit more than the other ribs and it is hard to level it all out so that you have straight walls.
  16. Spare wheel?

Just happened to a friend in Scotland. Hit pothole and ended up with a tyre which was a total write off and on checking the spare found it was useless. Fortunately she was close to the ferry terminal and manged to hobble onto the last ferry from the island she was visiting and got to the...
  17. Cutting tool dilemma

If cutting furniture board using a jig saw then try using a blade for steel as they tend to have a finer tooth and will leave a clean edge. Also, set the jig saw to give a straight up and down cut rather than use the pendulum or orbital setting as this may leave a rough edge.
  18. van search

With regard to a MWB van, on the drivers side you can fit a good 6' bed behind the drivers seat which will pull out to make a double. To the right of the bed there is space for a fridge with cooker above. Across the back of the van you can fit a toiler/shower unit. On the passenger side there is...
