    Spray foam insulation.

Hi I’ve been a fan of the spray foam insulation ever since I built my last van. ( the Merc vario ) & Obviously it HAD to be the closed cell type. However these days it’s falling out of favour with the building industry for some reason! Apparently it’s something to do with remortgaging! Or not...

The aluminium sheeting is glued & riveted to the steel box. It’s overlapped on each joint so there is a step on all the joints. I’ve run a beed of sikaflex down each seem which has smoothed this out somewhat. we‘re still not sure whether we’re going to wrap the entire thing or paint it? The...

    Favourite 3 tools

I was given an old table saw by a mate who was clearing out his late father in laws garage. it’s turned out to be a very useful piece of kit. Especially in ripping down timber to non standard sizes. but of course my battery screwdrivers are without doubt the most useful tools I own, & the...

Yes It is very low, which has bothered me from the off.. but it’s been used for the last 4/5 years and there’s no sign of grounding! However I have now cut the overhang to give me a departure angle. As I think that this would be the most valuable area? The body is made from plastic and is very...

yes… well because the box and cab are about 50mm apart at there widest. I intend to fix wood to the inside wall of the cab & the outside wall of the box. The cab & box won’t actually touch but the neoprene will bridge the gap, being fixed to the inside of the cab and the box, this should be...

Thanks for that.. I wasn’t aware that there was a gasket made to do the job🤷🏼‍♂️ although it wouldn’t work in our situation, as the tin at the back of the van is very ribbed and the front of the box is 13mm plastic! Anyway iv ordered some neoprene ( wetsuit material ) and I’m going to screw to...

Little update… we’re cracking on with a few jobs, 1st is sealing the roof panels before painting the roof. Then fitting the rear locker doors, I have raised the back end by 8“ just by cutting an angle into the body. Then tackling the awkward job of cutting the walkway between the cab and box...

    Bike racks on barn doors

Can’t answer your question specifically ! But we had a two bike rack on the back of a fiat which fitted to the tow ball. I was pleasantly surprised how solid it felt and it would hinge out of the way to open the doors. So maybe an option?

I just like to be able to get from the cab to the rear without having to go out side… We’re also going to swivel the passenger seat so it will become part of the lounge area. 👍

Hi guys I’ve had trouble receiving the messages on here! But they have all arrived today!! Haha Plenty has happened over the last couple of weeks. The bodies frame has been built.. a little heavier than I had intended. But the builder insisted…he’s used 50x50mm box. he’s now started to clad her...

Cheers for that… the flatbed that’s been built on the iveco is entirely plastic! About 15mm thick. So it’s never going to rust/rot. I’ll insulate the floor on top of the plastic & put down a 15mm ply floor I don’t think I’ll need it to be weatherproof inside the plastic body. 👍

We’re having the body built by a local fabricator in steel then clad in aluminium glued & riveted on. My main concern is that it end up looking like a luton van.. but I’ve designed the box to look more like a Motorhome! Hopefully…

Morning Phil. You’re referring to Peter, went by the screen name Lister Diesel... & yes he certainly was a very helpful person. I’ve saw his trailer builds on the old forum. We’re planning on some similar, although theses days you can buy the GRP insulated panels fairy easy & with the...

    Which one?

The newest Sprinter is also fully Galvanised. I’ve not heard anything about euro”7” I thought that with the ban on building new diesel vehicles from 2030, euro6 was as high as they were going.... can’t see much point in design and testing a new Diesel engines for such a short period of use...

    Which one?

I totally agree with you LEZ are just a way to get more money... some South America countries have a congestion system, which works on your number plate, where even numbers allowed one day & odd the next.... this is much fairer & still free to go.. Darren

    Which one?

It’s always a difficult decision… if your lucky you will find the right vehicle. Unless you are definitely looking at a certain manufacturer then don’t limit yourself. i wouldn’t convert anything that’s NOT euro6 theses day. I believe that it’s going to be the most important or restricting part...

Buying a new (to me) van…

I’ve definitely settled on an iveco daily Luton truck. There’s surprisingly quite a few around. Over 3.1/2 ton, automatics, & euro 6. although they are bigger than I wanted with a 20’ body 7’6” wide and nearly 8’ tall,& a (xlwb) 5.1meter wheel base, making the vehicle 27feet long. The ideal...
