Stu709d

I checked the VIN and it brought up your 709D.

No sign of an electric compressor, but it did have additional tankage for brake vacuum.

If you have an air-operated door, it night have a compressor for that.

Brakes are vacuum with drum brakes, with one model having front discs, mine has discs all round.

If you haven't got anything obviously air operated and the handbrake is cables to the rear drum brakes, the compressor may be redundant. If that is indeed the case I would be interested in it for a spare.

Hi peter,

Thanks for the info. When ive got time il make a dedicated effort to trace all the pipes etc and find out exactly whats going on with it, its possible what i assumed is a compressor pump is in fact something else as i havnt found anything air operated on the van so far, the door is a manual sliding effort, as you say, brakes are front discs, rear drums and cable handbrake, no air pots, its mainly the metal tank thats convinced me there must be something i havnt found yet. Il let you know if i end up with a spare compressor, ive been toying with the idea of rigging up some air jacks underneath for levelling, changing tyres etc but not sure its worth the effort or expense.

Thanks again,
Stu

Temporary halt to proceedings as we get the trailer out of storage and swap it for the Mercedes.

We are off to Holland & France next week, engine show at Nuenen first, then we unload the engine at leave it at a friend's place and take the trailer on down to France.

We went to Carpentras last year, but won't go down that far this year as you end up with a lot of driving!

Back in the UK after our 3-week trip to Holland and France. Didn't do as much driving this year, 1000 miles or so and we stayed on sites longer to get some sunshine and relax.

Couple of standout things:

1) We had to take Rita to hospital with severe stomach/abdominal pains and vomiting, suspected gall stone. The hospital at Nijmegen took her in without question after we phoned ahead, passport, EHIC card and travel insurance all produced and copied.

A full set of tests and physical examination followed, but nothing untoward came out, so we were released about midnight with a recommendation that we talk to our GP about getting the bladder taken out.

Lovely people and superb hospital, we couldn't have been treated better.

2) We had a visit to a private museum/collection on our last day, that was a real discovery. Originally I thought it was an engine museum, but it was much much more.

It was arranged by a friend so I don't know about public access, but if you look up Wim van Schayik Museum you should find it.

Brought the Mercedes down from storage this morning and put the big trailer in its place.

Got some hospital stuff next week, then I hope to have a date for my own heart operation.
