Seat belts for side seats.

just to update about seating in a van and insurance needs . had a rather long discussion with the guys at adrian flux there about the best out there about the requirements they needed .i explained that the van i am looking for would have a modification to the front seating from a single passenger seat to a twin seat with two three point belts for the grand kids ,and that there would be two lap belts fitted to the standard front facing seating arrangement and as the van was designated a 4 berth type seems that berth designates the sleeping arrangement not the traveling passengers that seems to depend on the amount of front/rear facing belted seats would there insurance cover the two passengers in the rear making the van capable of carrying 5 occupants there answer was yes ,as long as i informed them of the modification that had or was to be carried out to the front seats no mention of engineers report either and the amount of belted lap or otherwise forward or rear facing seats then the insurance would show the amount of passengers that were covered to travel in the van belted legally insured .

Yes should be ok with ins ,remember lap belts in front centre seat ok provided the person cannot strike the windshield or dash though i would never use lap belts even in rear as folk would break there neck.
Also the under plates must be correct if van is younger than 2006,get building me lad.

gotta get a van first then sort it , will be having two long plates made with captive nuts to go under the van floor at the front to take the seat mounting bolts ,,or four separate plates then weld to the floor of the van measurements not realy sure of as i havet got a van yet ,may even invest in a mig if the price of the work is too much at a garage .and then look at the seat belt fixing arrangements for the back ,check them and then see if i can make them any more sturdy than they will be , mind you a decent clout up the back end from anything bigger than a mondeo tends to make the rear of a wood and ally van fold like a pack of cards anyway ,but thats the chance or risk thats taken if you look on the bad side with everything you wouldn't do a great deal in this life

the front seat arrangement will have two three point belts in so as i can fit two child seats securely then the kids are strapped in the child seats with full harnesses four point ones i believe they are .

i am hoping to drop on a decent cf1 but a cf2 would be fine .for some reason i love the bedfords there are still quite a few out there . they do usually require a bit of work on them due to there age and require a certain amount of ongoing tender care but there so easy and cheap to maintain timing belt what 10 quid and 20 mins to do ,a clutch is only a couple of hours and i belive under a hundred quid to buy no massive bills on them . i love the classics and my grandson even at 5 is realy into them aswell ,and love going to classic car shows . so may as well fullfill both passions ,wilding and classic vehicles then theres classic insurance cheap as chips ,i had a quote of 150 quid fully comp ,limited mileage 2cd veihcle to around the 10 k no penalties if i should exceed that mileage, only a hike in my excess if i needed to claim i was informed ;) road tax is highish on them though ,over 2000cc there 2.3 unless i was lucky enough to drop on a tax exempt one ,that would be nice doubt it though . but the plates for the front belt and braces job oversize are as easy to fit as any .anyway going to drop on a mig ,brush up on the welding skills bobs yer uncle body panels are the most expensive bits for them ,so repair is the way to go and ive done loads of that over the years .

There was a chap with one close to me so i asked the price to which he sad 3,i said £300 a bit steep,he became angry and said 3 grand so i walked away larfing.
I think give a cf a mis and go for something less old.

why take the risk?

As far as I have been lead to believe all people must have a forward facing seat belt. There is only 3 in my camper, so only 3 people ever ride. Even though I recently saw one somewhere travelling with a whole group of people and kids sat round a table in the back..........he has to pay the fine......steve bristol

You can have rear facing seats with belts & must have head rest, mine has six seats the middle ones swivel 360deg but only lock forward and back but will not lock at 90deg as this is now a no no when driving.
