Iveco 2007 Library Van - Any good ??

I have a older one,built 1997 but first reg 2000,goes like a clock,parts from agents are expensive ish but zeplin trading and ebay do el cheepo and copies,there is a iveco web site which i use,very handy,if talking about the big 27ft units then go for it.
Mine has the inline 2.8 belt driven cams,think the larger donkeys are chain driven high cams and some very large older engines are pushrod ohv,im not a front wheel drive fan,
Some like mine will require the rear diff up geared as mine was in the green cruise 2500rpm at 45mph,i had to change from a 41/8 to a 43/11 axle unit,easy sorted once i found one on ebay and freighted to ulster.
Now 2500 is 56mph which is ok on our roads.

These Iveco's are brilliant machines, however they do tend to suffer from the dreaded tin munching monster which can be invisible on coach built machines like this one, but it could be lurking away underneath what otherwise might be a panel or floor section that looks to be in perfect condition.... if you see what I mean?
Library vans can make brilliant conversions however some times they are fitted with a very low ratio diferentials which can make driving on motorways to be not only very slow and at high revs but also very fuel sapping................. the dif can of course be changed if it is a low ratio but the change can be costly unless you are a very capable wrench monkey.

I run a 5.5tonne Iveco ex welfare bus with 3.0 lump & 6sp box & its great. Plenty of power & sits on the limiter at 100kmh all day. .....

Could you imagine the reaction of the staff if you turned up at a Motorhome & Caravan Club Site in that!!

Did you watch the video? That bus cost $5,000 (they bought two - one as a spare for parts - so total $10,000). Then a few thousand for the fairly basic conversion - so whole lot would have been under $20,000 I would have thought. A hell of a lot less then a typical Motorhome.

That is exactly why our 2 sites in France were strictly for "ADULTS ONLY"!!
Strangely enough of all our visitors, over 75% were either current or retired teachers and of the remainder the very vast majority were either parents or grand parents with only less than 2% being either couples who had no kids or single people.
And in all of our time over there, if my memory serves me correctly, the youngest visitors we ever had were over 30 years of age.

Following on from this, and as the Marketplace seller did not get back to me with a video as he said he would, plus he's about 2.5 hours drive away, I came across another older Iveco on Marketplace which is geographically closer and looks like it could be good for me to have a base for smartening up a bit more. Going to have a look tomorrow. MOT Check shows some rust but would be interested in anyone's input on this one

Looks tidy enough at 1st glance. Doesn't look like a fortune either, as long as the spec is suitable for your needs. Reliability wise I'd do seems to have a good name, & far superior quality to a transit.....

Looking at MOT History it has had some rust. Will go and have a look and see if I can get the price down if it's not that tidy. I would need to put Solar on for off-grid and also inverter etc.
Currently SORN, think they may be mechanics as says it will have full 12 month MOT before sale.

That one is a far better bet than a tin worm Transit, however take some decent lighting with you and possibly some kind of ramps so that you can make a very thorough search underneath, not forgetting also a small hammer and some kind of sharp spike to check all areas for the dreaded tin munching monster.
Although they are far stronger than Transits because of their very meaty chassis, it might take quite a lot of work to get the body into decent/strong shape and I would have thought that £2.5k is a bit top side price wise as the interior is very basic and somewhat scruffy.

Long as its not rotten I reckon 2.5k doesn't sound a fortune, especially with the Motor Caravan body type already sorted. If its coming with a full mot it needs checking to make sure its legit, but should point to it being at least half right.
I run an Iveco & love it, it is the 3.0 litre & also has a Mellor body built on it but the 2.8 seems a reliable lump too & as said the chassis is usually solid & very butch especially as this is a 4.2tonner...
