12 Volt Heating

@mistericeman are you on LPG as fuel for driving as well as having what looks like a VERY NEAT refillable gas type scenario. How was that fitted, professionally or did you do it ??

Lpg is just heating/cooking fridge....
Bought bottles second hand (with plenty of test life left) both bottles and hoses for less than £100.. And fitted them myself (just added a manual change over so can run one bottle down and then swap over to the full one)
Fitting is painless if you can swap a Calor bottle over then fitting refillable ones isn't difficult.

Where did you get secondhand bottles from and the refill part at the bottom of the image plus swap-over must be a little specialist, can you point me in the right direction please ?

This thread is opening some doors for me, I didn't think portable wood burners were a thing (don't know why) and found this that looks interesting and would have a place in Sylvia's external Awning if ever parked up for a long time

You can get fitting kits for the chimney to go through awnings. I am wary personally of sparks so keep it clear from the awning! (I do come across as very risk-averse when it comes to fire, don't I  )

Bit of Veggie Chilli on the go here :geek:

The one in your link is basically a variation on the same theme.

Love your Van wrap David, do you have any pictures of the inside ?

Cheers
Robert
Thanks :)
I need to take some interior photos actually. Not got ones with the current setup (and still have to finish the build at the ceiling level with some kind of storage).

I didn't really pay for it!
The guy who did it is a signwriter so he did all the vinyl cutting on his plotter and came up to me in the Borders to apply it (took around 6 hours to install). He offered to do this while I supplied and fitted a pair of new Leoch AGM 110Ah Batteries in his own VW Campervan.
I feel I definately got the better end of the deal, but he thinks he did as well, so a win-win all round which is always the best result :D

I'll PM you the guys details. He is in Manchester (Stockport I think?) so fairly close to you.

Dear @Squiffy (Phil)

Could you give me some more details on the conversions used for the underslung gas container etc and also your LPG and what engine, where you got it done etc, apologies if you may have mentioned that before.

Also as an aside is it a legal requirement to have an LPG sticker on the Van, if you carry the bottled Calor gas propane or butane?
Thanks
Robert
Got the complete setup from autogas 2000 with stainless steel holding cradle and straps ( A little bit extra in cost ). The job I completed myself ( There is no legal impediment to do this, as much as some try to tell you) So long as you are competent in DIY then it is really an easy job to carry out ( I've now done 3 installations over 3 years ago and none of them have had a problem in any shape or form). As I have previously mentioned at this point in time gas is cheap if purchased as Auto gas from a gas supplier or Garages that sell auto gas for gas propelled vehicles. But be careful of any gas propelled vehicle as they are rolling time bombs with all that gas and combustion going on they are massively dangerous 😆😆. Phil

Dave give it a rest, there are hundreds and tens of thousands of gas installations world wide let a lone in the UK. If they were that dangerous it would be illegal, watch the video and you will see that the gas tank has a slow blow safety valve which is more than a petrol driven car does in its tank, I have seen and dealt with 4 or five engine fires in my time ( Not mine) and believe me once you get an engine fire if its not sorted very very quickly just move away and watch it burn. If everybody thought like you there would be no modern motorhomes on the road. Phil

or maybe MORE modern with Electric Cooking and Fridge Facilities? Gas Hobs are banned in Holland on new home builds for example.

As far as giving it a rest, sorry but you are the one that started with the sarcasm .... "But be careful of any gas propelled vehicle as they are rolling time bombs with all that gas and combustion going on they are massively dangerous 😆😆 " - So Pot, Kettle ....

True, but with a ridiculous suggestion that its dangerous to have a naked flame with a gas installation in a motorhome, its a deserved sarcasm. That sort of statement is what is commonly known as scaremongering, on a self build site such as this. If you want to give advise on electrical things please do so, as you obviously enjoy tinkering with it and seem to know a lot about the subject. But please do not put folk off by suggesting its unsafe for a flame of any sort in a gas fitted motorhome when it is evidently a proven safe situation. Phil

I don't think there is anything wrong with lpg in caravans/motorhomes/camper vans or even boats come to that...
Provided its fitted correctly AND maintained to a decent standard.
A petrol engined vehicle is inherently dangerous (highly flammable liquid near to sources of ignition and hot exhausts) yet there are plenty of those trundling around (I'll not include vw t2s in that due to their propensity to self combust)
And bear in mind in 2 of my landrovers both myself and the passenger are sat directly on top of 10 gallons of petrol each....
Diesel is always going to be far safer due to the relative difficulty to ignite it.

However I went all electric because I saw, it as free power after the initial investment AND because the 'experts' said it wouldn't work.

No truer word, but bear in mind that the majority fires in vehicles are down to poor or worn electrical installations. This I know for a fact having worked in the motor industry for 40 years. Phil

Listen Phil, I didn't say it was dangerous so don't put words in my mouth! I will post below precisely what I said on this thread ...
"Personally I don't like the idea of carrying large containers of highly flammable compressed gas together with running naked flames inside a vehicle"
So I am giving a PERSONAL view, not a recommendation or warning. And yes, I DO think it is safer to have a vehicle without gas installed, but that is MY point of view and you have YOUR point of view. I am not saying it is UNSAFE, but I do think it is LESS SAFE.
Is driving at 70 MPH unsafe on the road? not really, but it is less safe then driving at 60 MPH.
