    Plug sockets, usb?

As it happens I have one of these but they're only rated at 1A and not really suitable for iPad or fast charging phones.

    Plug sockets, usb?

That wouldn’t help me as I tend to use them to charge my devices during the night (especially my watch).

    Plug sockets, usb?

I just wish you could get USB sockets without either LED voltage or lights. It's amazing how much these light up that van during the night. What with the diesel heater controller, an inverter controller, and several USB sockets there seem to be little lights all over the place!

What do others do with this space above the cab?

We tend to stuff coats and random detritus in there but I cant help but think it could be put to better use.

Could be interesting for those worried about diesel heater noise.

Before the engine died on our Old Hymer I fitted a chinese diesel heater and connected it to the exisitng ducting and it worked a treat. When we scrapped the Hymer I used it as a donor vehicle for a self conversion and moved the heater along with most other stuff over to our current van where...

    New Build

Erm? I have a smart charger connected to my batteries and a solar charge controller connected to my batteries at the same time, is that wrong? It seems to work okay.

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

In the end I have kept the VSR (as I have it) and gone with a manual version of your setup. That is, I have fitted a two way switch to select either the VSR or the B2B. Effectively Home/Away. When parked up at home and not getting used much (the van) I can set it to VSR so that the solar such as...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

I have a BMV700 and would have to insert a relay between it and the rest of the circuit as the BMV700 has only a single contact. I’m not a massively heavy leisure battery user, albeit we have an inverter powered fridge. I’m thinking my simplest solution may be to just go with the tr-smart on...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

I've been thinking about this some more, oh my have I ever, talk about sleepless night! It's quite worrying me actually. I'm a retired electrical engineer and I had a good reputation for my technical knowledge, now I seem to be tying myself up in knots with this. I genuinely worry that I'm...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

Okey dokey, thanks for getting back to me. I have a tr-smart on order with the intention of replacing my VSR with it and leaving the van battery to its own devices so to speak. But seeing this I’m thinking I could go for the same set up as you, and keep my vehicle battery topped up. I have...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

Sorry for being dense, but what are the shutdown and restart values now that you have adjusted them? Thanks Phill

To grease or not to grease!

Oops! Really sorry if anyone dashed out and bought silicone spray. I’ve sprayed mine and it isn’t silicon spray it is Rocol dry pterodactyl PTFE spray. Did it work on the SLD? Well hard to say as it wasn’t stiff to start with. Maybe a bit easier and quieter, but not massively so. But then these...

To grease or not to grease!

Mentioning spray... I've used silicon spray to great effect on our once sticky roller blinds. I'll give some a bash on our SLD and see how that works out. I'll report back once the deed is done.

    12v isolation switch

I would have thought so. Phill

    12v isolation switch

I've fitted the replacement isolator switch now and everything is as it should be. No measurable volt drop across the isolator and the same volt drop in both the positive and negative cable runs from the battery bank to the inverter (0.1V at 108A). Inside the van the bar graph on the inverter...

    12v isolation switch

Aah right, so mine are about half in both aspects. Should be okay I would have thought. I did check the current rating and calculate the volt drop when I went for 35mm2.

    12v isolation switch

I know you're "all electric" so have a bigger system (Ah wise) than me but what cross section/length cables do you have to your inverter? Regards Phill

    12v isolation switch

When I said I was a bit mean with the cables, they are still 35mm2 cables, and the total length is probably less than 300-400mm. They weren’t warm. Yes, I do have a fuse fitted, actually there are two fuses in the total circuit, a 200A battery fuse and a separate 150A fuse for the inverter. The...

    12v isolation switch

We finally managed to get away in our van last week, which was our first proper trip since I finished the conversion. It was a great opportunity for a quick shakedown, so now I have list of little jobs to do here and there. The thing that bothered me most, and what this post relates to, was...

    Staying safe

RCD is an abbreviation for Residual Current Device. They can and do work on three phase circuits with no neutral as well as single phase circuits with a neutral. This is easier to grasp with a single phase circuit with just a live and a neutral. If the current flowing in the live wire is not...
