For mine i used a few bits of scrap ply to make a very simple knock up, two bits and a old hinge then messed about til I got the position right so it both supported the door open and also held it closed, there was is minimal stress on the door or frame.

You can get it in plastic so with a bit of wedge cutting on the unseen part & some heat to help it bend I'd think it'd be possible.

I did earth the one I fitted in the self build as I was running cable everywhere, but not since and most smaller ones which plug into the ciggy socket have no earth other than on the 12v side.

Hmm, Re Neg wiring I was told it was best to put them direct to the chassis as near to the battery as possible, I thought this was a good idea as the chassis manufacturer did the same. But I'm not a sparky so ignore me.
