    SPRAY FOAM INSULATION

Whatever insulation you use you’d have to remove it before welding! So scraping off the foam isn’t much more work! After you have ripped out all your fixtures and fittings. Darren

We had always intended to seal up the rear doors and fit a scooter rack on the back. So I had to cut in a couple of side hatches, these access the under the fixed bed storage area ( our boot ) I bought a couple of frames made in aluminium and used the steel I cut out for the infill. I’v fitted...

Cutting holes for windows or skylights and all the other things that have to through your van skin. People have different ways to do it..... I always Mark the size & shape directly on the van, then tape around the outside of the line (to protect the paint,). then drill a hole big enough for the...

When we bought her she had 2 skylights fitted, both in poor condition. I’m not a fan of the plastic caravan type of sky lights, I bought a yacht deck hatch which is big enough for me to climb through, and fitted it into the rear hole, ( above the bed ) the deck hatch is very strongly built you...

My steel wheels were in a awful state, I had them sand blasted then painted with gray paint, which hasn’t really stood the test of time.... I’m thinking of getting them power coated sometime soon.

Do you leave a heater on, in your van?

Cheers guys my concern for the use of the heater, wasn’t about it’s safety, it was more todo with the radiator making condensation and or stopping the mould growth. Our van sits at front of our house & as we live in a valley it gets very little sun this time of year! I do drive it around...

Yeah there was a guy (on the other site) who had started one but I’v never seen one finished! They are great buses , I believe that they use Toyota engine and running gear, which would be enough for me to get excited about.

Do you leave a heater on, in your van?

I’v been given a small oil filled radiator, it has a thermostat built in, i intended to plug it into my shore power socket in the van and leave it set on low, dose anyone else do this? Is it a good idea? Or not? Thanks Darren.

Yeah it was a concern of mine originally, Although it doesn’t burn, I tried to set some of the trimmings on fire and it wouldn’t burn. But Hopefully I won’t have to do any welding on the top sides, and it doesn’t go below the floor level on our van. I figured that if I’v got to remove the...

I got a guy from the iow, he came to me on the way to another job, it cost £500 ish. I must agree with you that’s it the single best thing I did on our build. Only took the guys a morning to do, after I did all the masking. Darcar

Yeah the rear doors are permanently sealed as we intend to hang a motor scooter on the rear. This particular van didn’t have a side door at all, varios can be specked with or without a side door and hinged or sliding. The door I fitted was new old stock motorhome door, it was a bit of a faff...

This conversion took us ( me & the wife ) about 18 months on and off. Is it finished yet? We built it, with in mind a extended tour of Europe, so some of our must have items, were a fixed full size double bed, large shower with toilet ( wet room ) full size fridge, cooker, & sink.

Haha that’s true, you’ve got to admire that they used galvanising long before the others.
