    Camos self seeking satellite dome

I had a camos dome on my sprinter, same thing happened dome went brittle and cracked, I bought one from road pro fitted it and promptly drove it into a low branch, thinking the worse I was surprised to find it was ok! They are quite flexible when new! I too now have a mechatronic 85cm dish as...

Well I’ve gone & bought our next van.. although it’s not a van yet!

@Darcar That’s an interesting bit of fabrication only striking thing me is the extensive rear overhang with no departure angle, but obviously that would only be a problem in rare circumstances.

yep the mot is a bit of a pita, as an Ambulance it would have been class IV but when presented as a private commercial vehicle it becomes a bit more involved, my 5000 dually sprinter had one HGV test done by the trader I bought it from with tacho exception but all the rest once it could be...

    Sticky solar panel

@Squiffy, funnily enough personally I have seen a few bonded windows becoming detached or partially detached its probably more common than than solar panels becoming frisbees but usually without the potentially dangerous consequences. Occasionally there's some history before the failure that if...

    Sticky solar panel

The glue it and pray brigade will always say and try to convince their peers their method is safe this discussion is as old as the hills, and no doubt if done properly in the right conditions and assuming the big unknown I.e. the underlying paint is also well adhered to the vehicle it usually...

Thistle - Ex Ambulance to...... well hopefully something else

Crikey, it been ages since I updated the thread, along came Covid lockdown and I ended up with a customers Iveco stuck on my drive for several weeks after I had removed the Phoenix system from it and I could not go and buy materials for Thistle for quite a while. Once lockdown ended we enjoyed...

@Stephen Ellis I moderate the Ambulance to camper group on Facebook. There’s quite a few examples of the LT46 there in the photos section. One of the first things I would advise before using it on public roads is to make sure the taxation class has been changed from Ambulance to PLG or PHGV...

    Remis Cab blinds

I bought a set from Magnum, discounted as delivery damaged for my Crafter for about £200 which I still think was about £150 too much! They are of truly appalling quality made from the most ridiculously thin fragile plastic which proved quite tricky to reinforce and repair, no wonder they had...

    TANKLESS WATR HEATER

@JIXAMAN Although not fully room sealed the ones sold with a spigot can still use an external flue, the reason these things get slated so much within the more sensible elephants of the community is because most people are too lazy or too tight fisted to buy and install a flue kit to install them...

    Which one?

Ditto for our 2000 Citroen Picasso, iirc the entire front bumper had to be removed to change the fog light bulb. Dealer charge including labour must have been excruciating for those mug enough to pay it. It didn’t take owners long to realise it was quicker to remove the wheel arch liner and...

    Which one?

@Andy L My preference if I was to do a third self build assuming an EV Transit van was still too expensive would probably be an iveco daily with the fantastic 8 speed auto box. Excellent Van especially if you want something cavernous and/or plated at >3500kg. Galvanisation isn’t always all...

I’ve sold our VARIO …… & now looking for another vehicle.

I had two MG ZT V8s a black nasp mk2 and a blue supercharged mk1, the blower was installed by dreadnought. There’s a video of mine and several others on YouTube at the Belgian MGF meet in 2010. I used to be the technical moderator of the 75&ZT owners club & I had the MG Rover T4 diags system...

I’ve sold our VARIO …… & now looking for another vehicle.

@Darcar I have the 8 speed ZF in my BMW F11, its a cracking gearbox almost seamless changes and yes the mpg (in cars) is typically stated to be a bit better than for the manual however that could also be very dependent on ones right foot. When I was looking to buy van to convert my first...

    Advice needed before purchase

@michelleb Potential money pit, Get your own quotes for a fitted exchange gearbox, (plus common sense would be to price in doing the clutch at the same time). If the other faults were an easy fix they would probably have been rectified already.

What are peoples thoughts on this

@michelleb For £6k that doesn't sound to bad, you seem to be getting a fair assortment of useful bits included, that you could potentially reuse if the interior turns out to be so rough or crappy you decide to gut it and start again. One advantage with a build in that sort of semi ripped apart...

Are remote gas solenoids worth it?

Mines always turned off at the valve when driving, pure common sense really, last thing I would ever want to do is provide a fuel source or worse, kill or maim a fireman if the van was in an accident that led to a fire irrespective of how remote that might be. However once parked up is stays on...

Battery only lasts 2 years and a bit?

@MarkJ What Ablemail device are you using, I have an AMT12-2 and it wasn’t doing a proper job irrespective of which charging profile I set it to. Ablemail weren’t interested in helping because I bought it via a third party. In the end I wasted more money buying their BT interface to find out...

Family of 8. Coach self build advice.

Crikey, 8 people in a battle bus! How many pets to add to the mix? Either way that is a lot of muddy boots and wet coats to anticipate so consider some form of segregation, we enter the van via the cab when it’s really wet and the dogs stay in there till less soggy! A coach is going to have...

A right royal PITA of a job! Can anyone help please?

I have learnt to my cost that Puraflex PU40 does not stick to pvc wall cladding or plastic shower trays unless seriously well keyed, it is one of the few things it simply does not work on it can be peeled off very easily from stuff like saniclad. I have found that straightforward vinyl flooring...

    Camp Quirky...

Quirky are marketing experts at creating a feeding frenzy for their extremely expensive tickets, for us its always been a no no because of the high price they charge on top for dogs, we have three, plus they also limit dog tickets as well adding to the frenzy. Last year there were long queues...
