WiRE SIZE?

coolasluck

I have some cable at home but as it is not labeled i do not know what size it is.
I think it looks to be 25 mm2 stranded cable but need to find out for certain.
The question is if the cable has no info on denoting the size of wire how can i find out the size?
I have counted the strands and there is 147 strands i think lol
Anyone able to provide the answer?

Cable diameter should be 5.6mm. A= Pi x R squared therefore r = sq root of A/Pi. r=2.8 D = 5.6. QED

Cable Size

Roughly a 25mm2 in a Flexible cable will be 6.75" dia a 16mm2 will be about 5.6mm dia

Heavy Duty Flexible Cable

If planning to use Jump leads take care a lot of cheaper sets of jump leads use aluminium cable leads the rating of which for continuous use will be prohibitive. Try for Fork Lift truck jump leads or cables another good source of heavy duty cable is single core welding cable.

I agree with Alf on this one. You only fit them once so use proper Copper multi strand cable as used in Battery powered Forklifts or even welding cable.

Cheap jump leads are inferior quality.

Yep thanks guys,i have fitted the cable but had been thinking of buying a load of the 35mm so as i can make up some inverter cables as well.As you say get it right from the start lol i thought i had with these cables and was originally going to go for welding cable anyhow, i wish i had now.I had already bought a load of lugs for the 35mm.Think i will go back on e-bay and get some welding.Perhaps i should not be such a tight arse in future;)
Still it has been bugging me.I dont like being anything less than 100 percent with what i do and if it plays on my mind then i just have to go back and do it again!!

Hope you had a good xmas jim give ann our best.

Thanks to all whom responded:)
