What size roof lights are people fitting..??

I'm looking at fitting a roof light to my Movano/Master van.

Quiet like the Heki Midi. But it not sure if it's to big..?? What are people's thoughts on fitting a larg roof vent.

I converted a mwb movano and went with a midi heki, I wouldn't want to go any smaller. That said, with 2 solar panels on the roof I wouldn't have wanted to go much bigger either.

I think it's spot on size wise, but that's just personal opinion

What model/year have you got, and is it a high top?

On my 2012 Master Hightop, I would have to cut the ribs in the roof to fit the midi, which is something I do not want to do, so I went with the Mini which requires a 400x400mm cut out which fits nicely between the ribs.

(My van has the GRP high top).

That was the main factor on our choice now you've said it. We've got a 2008 mid height (though confusingly it's classed as high-top, with the taller being the extra-high) and the midi is a perfect fit. Looking at the pics there's maybe an inch front and back between the edging batons and the ribs.

The pre 2010 has a different roof to mine with (I think) different spacing of the ribs.

The other problem I have is that on my model, the gap between the roof and the underside of the ribs is too long for the 2 halves of the panel to screw together, so I have to either, make an inset ceiling panel between the ribs, or find some longer screws which will fit and add some plastic trim between the 2 halves.

(Sorry, not explained too well, but I hope you see what I mean!)

It's a 2003 high top could be mid. ? Roof is steel. LWB

If anyone has any photos it would help no end.

Totally get what you mean. I ran the roof flat so had deep insulation between the ribs but only about 10mm over the ribs themselves, even then there is only a few mm of overlap between the top and bottom seitz frames. And the ribs on the steel top are relatively shallow.

Im not bothering. Two sets of LED's running along the overhead storage and keeping the standard 12v ones that was in the bus. As long as i can see the beer and wife see the cooker then all is good.

i may have done this one before, but there are usually 2 choices of rooflight for different roof thicknesses, if you have the thinner you may be able to swap it
or ,after fixing, get some thin white plastic trim, about 50mm, from a d/glazing or plastics place, cut to fit and stick across the gap with d/sided sticky foam. then use white silicone to finish the corners. even though the colour is different, this is a barely noticeable fix

Yes we spoke about this Nigel and it is almost certainly the way I will go. (I do have the one for larger thicknesses but it still isn't enough!).

From memory, without going out and checking, I think the ribs are 60mm, then there is also the thickness of the steel and the ceiling to add on.

The other way I thought of doing it was to build a square wooden frame (painted same colour as vent) around the vent to the thickness of the gap, then Sikaflex it in to the underside of the roof after the hole is cut. This would also give me a bit more woodwork to stick the ceiling to and making the hole in the ceiling easier to line up.

do you mean recess the vent ? that works too, people often do it for the seitz windows too-bit more effort, but us retirees have plenty of time eh ?

Not much help really but there is a 2014 Trigano based on a Citroen Relay that I pass most days and it has a rooflight, maybe it would be worth tryingView attachment 50457 to find what Trigano use on their conversions.

Heki 2 for me 950x650 lets loads of light through and see the stars,up to 60mm deapth of roof.Cost £300 from oleary about four years ago,they do a fitting service as well which was £100.

Thank you, that may a better option. More light the better.

I managed to fit one from a caravan;
