Victron VRM Geofence

I think I must have been asleep at the wheel... how long has VRM supported a Geofence?

And does it therefore have a kind of built-in tracker capability?

(I have a 'proper' tracker, but just wondered.)

For as long as I can recall.
You do have to have a GPS Receiver on the Venus OS unit to have it working of course (I have used these units - https://amzn.to/3y58WdB - for this and works out the box).
So .... it does in essence have a Tracker feature and if you have on-board internet you can set an alarm to email you when the vehicle has left its geofence. It also creates a daily KML file which you can apparently load into a few different programs and see your journey (I say 'apparently' purely as it is something I have never done, bit I have done the other stuff mentioned above).

Interesting, thanks. I don't have the GPS receiver (unless you gave it to me with the rest of the kit, and I didn't notice ), so I wonder how it knows where the van is at the moment? I guess I must have set my home location and not remembered doing it!

I don't remember if you have one or not. If you download within the Advanced page a .csv file you can look at the Gateway Latitude and Londitude info. If that varies I would think that would indicate a GPS signal (even when parked up the numbers vary due to the way GPS satellites work).

I’ve been looking at those gps devices for a while. Then the next problem will be cheap high performance mifi.
