Victron GX/RPi tweaks

For those using a Victron GX device including Raspberry Pi these upgraded to functionality in this video may be of interest.

One option not shown in this video but available is the addition of a "Shutdown" option in the menu. An option to pulling the plug on a Pi.

if you use this feature, is there a remote way to start up again? Or would you need to powercycle the RPi to get it running again?

(I suppose if it is not running, you have no comms to talk to it anyway, so not)

You are correct, it's a power lead out and back in again to start it from shutdown.

I guess I could send my RUT955 router an SMS to pulse a relay to trigger a restart of the RPi or a Cerbo (possibly).Never tried it though.

I've been using Guimods since the beginning and I find them really useful more for the setting up of the pi, not sure why the shutdown because as has already been said how do you start it up again? You can aleady reboot remotely so whats the point.

I also lost my A/D inputs on the last update, I wonder if they are back in this version. May have to try.

Nice to meet somebody who's trying these tweaks.

I like the shutdown as not a fan of just pulling the power. If the Pi is doing something at the moment the power goes off and a file gets corrupted perhaps it will never boot again is my worry.

Perhaps I'll try the Guimods today.

Pulling the plug on an active device is never the most desirable way to go, I would agree. Orderly shutdown is always preferable.
I use Home Assistant on an RPi linked to the Cerbo and that is similar ... there is a reboot option, but no actual shutdown option. And it feels like it takes an age to start up as well so always wondering if the last power down corrupted something while waiting for it to allow a connection

I find my cerbo very slow to communicate with remotely. The longer you leave it the worse it is. I wonder if it sulks? ;)

I have the setting enabled where it reboots if connection to VRM is lost for a certain time (that time you can define youself).
Maybe you can enable that and see if it makes a difference?

Also found the usual problem with slowness is fixed with a router reboot rather than a GX one.
