At first I thought that was the cill that had rotted away and split until I remembered the first photo

Waste of time using single pack red oxide, best to clean back to white metal and use a zink rich 2 pack epoxy.

I don't think I ever you'd zink ? as this is a found problem, not a job i planed for , I'll look into it for a next year.
now its to cold to put top coat on but it needs it to go back together today.
