Lazy tongs are the tool for the job, they keep the rivet pushed in while popping it.

never got on with them, seemed to take a lot of room to use, done afew thousand with the long handled ones
but anything is better than these Am-Tech Rivet Gun with 60 Rivets which can cripple you putting in a few thin weedy rivets !

A fiddle job of mine years ago was helping out a couple of mates who worked as a sheeting gang on new Industrial buildings. The inner sheets had to be pop rivetted every 300 mm in some instances (something to do with better fire containment). This included the roof ones as well, so I was working off a Cherry Picker. That not only knacked your arms, it knacked your back and neck as well. I found Guinness was very good at easing the aches and pains, which ensured a peaceful nights sleep. :p

Byronic

Some riveting stories there.
Reminds me of my Belfast days, only tongs I had were to pick up red hot mushrooms and belt them into the plates of the Titanic.
Don't know you're born lads these days, lazy tongs whatever next.
