Looked at a Transit campervan on Saturday (owned by Neighbours daughter) and had the oddest setup seen to date.
Durite VSR and 6-way Fuse box ... seems ok except the VSR wasn't connected to anything and the Fusebox had no connections
Battery Bank was made up of 4 batteries, but these were not connected to anything either - not even each other, and not quite the usual type ...
Little alarm/medical batteries I do believe. Interesting things as I tested the voltage of one (bearing in mind these have not been connected to anything for at least 4 months) and it was 12.99V. Remarkable high for a 12V Lead Battery. Had a little led light (so not much load) on it for last 24 hours and voltage at 12.75V so not sure yet what kind of capacity or state it is in as on the face of it, looks great! Quite likely good batteries but just not suitable for a Camper really.
Proposal is to take these out and fit a pair of 160Ah Lead Carbons from Alpha Batteries (they are getting a brand new 160Ah Lead Carbon Gel battery in stock in January, in the same G19 Form Factor (L x W) as the 110Ah Lead Carbons) and actually connect all the wiring so they can be used! 320Ah of Lead Carbon will give a nice amount of off-grid time
And as a wee bonus for me, I wil keep these little batteries as will be handy for test purposes and save lugging around heavy batteries
