Try AGM (absorbed Glass Mat) batteries iinstead
I've been using AGM batteries on my boat for several years now. They are lead acid batteries, but the electrolyte is held in a glass fibre mesh squeezed hard up against the plates. They are not as fragile as Gel batteries, which don't like over charging, and are just like a large dry battery, and can be placed in any orientation you like, even flat under seats. Completely indestructible, suitable for both deep cycle work and engine starting, and they maintain their voltage for months at a time. Brilliant! I should add that I have used Trojan 6V batteries in the past, and one of them failed after only 6 months, and it was replaced by the dealer.
You get what you pay for....
