mk5 transit semi high roof...

ricc

my transit semi high is a working van so its a case of sling out the tools , chuck in the bed, pota poti and gas cooker and away. for a weekend for me and teenage son shower aint exactly a priority, but ive been contemplating taking the mrs .... so shower might be a plus point, was thinking of going down the shower head on the open back doors and tarpaulin accross the back if youre shy route, perhaps with an old pallet to keep the toes out of the mud.

theres been a range of solutions , its just a case of picking the one that ticks all your personal boxes

Yep,loads of ideas! Thought of the top box idea. Mounted on the roof, could look like a top box,but screwed to roof and hole in base, would give height, but where I want it would look a bit odd on one corner. Gotta be the w/barrow one for me. Been out there .measured up ,showed swmbo what size the shower enclosure will be ,she's happy, but strangely wouldnt strip off to have a dry shower to make sure she could move her arms? ! Sorted the materials from my emporium of lovely articles,so going to build enclosure later today.Think I may line it with some very thin f/glass truck roof panelling I have. Set up frame and 'spring ' it in ,with curved corners. Will do the roof bulge at a later date, gotta get this conversion done in 90 days to comply with insurance.Times a tickin'!

Leave everything as it is and just bend ya nees ,it will strengthen ya leg muscules or get a high top from scrapyard and cut it down to size to fit the top of the van only where the hight is needed,i myself would stand out the back of the van with my shorts on and have an open shower, simple gravity fed set up would do :goodluck:.

Watering can out the back works better than our electric one.

For extensions either up or down. Have you see the size of commercial saucepans you can get. Nearly have a bath in them. Aluminium or stainless steel so no rust and as you can get them with a rim, fix with silicon type stuff.

Yes,kitchen at work has large stuff, but looked in catalogues..expensive. Sorted with this roof extension now I reckon.

Just an update .May have mentioned elsewhere.....Roof now extended over the shower as per I intended with the wheelbarrow! Have reshaped it a bit and made roof rack to mount next to it to balance out the rear view look.

The semi high roof only gives around 60" from floor to ceiling. Dont intend to cook in the van ,so wont be tending the stove hardly ever(cook outside),so no need to stand upright in that area. We've tested the height of the roof vs portaloo use, thats ok. SWMBO can walk around in the van with her head just about skimming the ceiling . Im a bit taller at 5ft 6ins and although I can cope generally the thing that is bothering me is fitting a shower compartment. We have the floor space for one but I really need to stand upright in there.Looked at raising the roof in that area by about 6ins,easy to do and Im not bothered about hacking into the van,but it appears that there is a roof x-member in the way which means Ive got to remove all the roof lining to completely reposition it. aaarghhh.cant see an answer! Did consider buying a s/h f/glass high top,but cant be bothered to fit it! Thought about using a shower tent outside or summat similar, but be a bit difficult to use if we are wild camping.Id like to be self contained.

use a fold down plastic seat ,thats what is instaled in old peoples homes and it works a treat, pitty they dont make a waterprof book to read whilst showering :idea-007:
