I hadn't forgotten this post, just other issues had got in the way. Anyway, on the other side of the world the question has been demonstrated and answered.

And from the comments on his video he has opened another can of worms! You can feed solar panels in reverse to de-ice them as people are pointing out.
Plus his previous video on shading and why the two panels he didnt shade werent producing due to the bypass diodes, I think he didnt cover one he covered two anyway his explanation is digging a hole for himself.
People are brilliant.

Never the less good videos to try and explain how they work just dont read the comments.

I don't think anybody needs to worry but after spending a fortune on panels and controllers it would be sickening to find some of that expensive energy was being used to heat a shaded panel and not charge your battery!
