Mercedes Diesel Black Death ?

Son has been investigating the BD issue that may or may not be affecting the pulling power of the diesel in our Merc CPV
So these pictures are for @Nabsim and anyone else who may know about the issue to have a look at and give some feedback please

Any feedback appreciated

They look clean to me, don’t think you have the problem show on Sprinter Source website 👍
It’s a good source of info though so may be worth a look at the T1N section

Thanks @Nabsim :)
Here's a video of the Turbo which spins freely but maybe could do with rebuilding ?

Not sure if it would be worth rebuilding and struggling to find a rebuild kit at the moment?

Sorry no idea about the turbo, just when you said about being down on power that was a symptom of BD. If your engine is the 2.7 turbo diesel 5 cylinder same as mine it should have lots of power. My Moho is 4tonnes but I can smoke the boy racers at the lights when I have one of my funny turns 👍

Thanks anyway. Sadly my engine is 2.1 . The Van is 3.5T
Maybe it just needs a tune or something?
Will do some more research on Sprinter Forums etc and see what gives.

I think the 2.1 is the most common Sprinter engine in UK/Europe. Not sure if they go that small in the US (they seem to like insanely large engines there!).
Not sure what your mechanical prowess is (mine is such I wouldn't touch a turbo :( ) but should be a variety of independant small garages and mechanics who could sort out a turbo rebuild?

Make sure all air and oil filters along with oil are new, check any diesel filter and replace as necessary then see what it’s like. Should always do basics before considering anything more. Importantly make sure you know what needs to be changed and where it is. A lot of guys in a car club I used to be in spent mega bucks trying to fix problems all because they hadn’t changed the petrol filter each year that was located in rear passenger wheel arch 👍

Mechanic did air and oil filters and oil change when he re-did all the brakes I am pretty sure.
