Layout/storage ideas?

Well, I guess blocking a door off is always an option, trouble is it's an optional extra I have ticked, so I'll kick myself very hard if I do end up blocking it off. My current van came with two doors, at first I though it was pointless, now it's one of my favourite things about the van. Sleeping by an open door is just the best when its hot.

Thanks Carol, will let you know. Plan is no gas at moment, but that may change.

how will you cook if you don't have gas ?

replace a door with a window, you still get a through air flow with the new window and you get floor space and cupboard space and overhead locker space to use also.... I cant imagine many women wanting to sleep overnight with an open door to be honest.... security and all that.., - more air flow can be introduced with roof lights which open up.

Will have roof vents too. If I'm with someone that doesn't feel safe, the doors will stay closed. When I travel through France alone and stay on service stations the doors are open a few inches and chained, I also have a block on the door stop. I'll let the robbers do the calculations on how much gas they will need to use. :)

I get your point though, and blocking a door off is always an option.

where's the shower ? table ?

Posh Totti eh

We have a portable shower with its own 12v power pack. Bit heavy on batteries but I was lucky to get some free of charge and no they did not fall off the back of a lorry.

We have one of those 12v plug into dash ones that works well.

Also got one of those solar black bags with a spout. Warms up the water but the spout is rubbish.

Watering can works perfectly if you have a friend.

All work better with a bit of warm weather and sunshine.

Table is a foldable stored between sink and rear door. Has an inch strap and a press-stud holding it in place.

I've used a builders bucket before now Richard. Fill with water, half hot half cold, then stand in it and use an old saucepan as a ladle to pour water over yourself. Great when camping by canoe. (Shower obviously taken on bank, not standing in canoe!)

We have bought three of these draw/box towers to go in the Mercedes, under the forward edge of the bed:

There is a slightly later one.

for storage in small areas, I use free stackable tomato boxes.. those blue plastic mesh ones which market stall holders dump at the end of the market.

Will be converting another MWB Sprinter. Any pictures or links to layout and good storage ideas you have come across, all greatly appreciated, as of course are any DIY tips, including, don't be daft and get a professionally converted van. :)

What sort of use will it be getting? Weekends away, long trips, over landing? How many people?

Any particular reason for avoiding gas? Only ask cos I was also very much against using it to start with but the more I looked into the alternatives the better gas seemed to be. Really glad I went with it now, particularly as its an underslung tank so doesn't take up any internal space.

Are you having a spare wheel, if so will it be inside? Just cos they take up more room than you think.

Van will be used as, daily driver, weekends away and longer trips, although 4 weeks is about the longest I can get away for for the next few years. Van will be for max of 3 people, but will be used mainly for 1 or 2.

Diesel is just an idea at the moment and am far from 100% on the idea. I like the idea of using one fuel and one piece of equipment to cook and heat van, but of course it has it's pros & cons. If I go with gas, I'll definitely go with an underslung tank.

Spare wheel will go on rear door, as it does on my current van, as I'll be fitting 265/75 16's and they don't fit in the standard underslung carrier.

How come you're getting rid of the current one just out of curiosity? Looks smart.

Cracking storage boxes them, I was going to fit wooden pigeon box type shelving in the garage, but they would be a lot lighter, can you remember where you bought them Peter.
