Fitting gas heater.Any one done this.

Mr D

I fitted a propex hs2000 and it's great.

The van is a mwb, massively insulated with a thermal bulkhead between habitation area and cab.

It takes minutes to get from cold to warm (obviously a very vague statement, think the lowest I've started from was about 5 degrees).

No idea how efficient it is, we fitted a 25l underslung tank about 4 years ago (so 20l of LPG) and started using the van properly about 2 years ago, and the tank is still about 3/4 full.

As an aside, and I know it gets discussed lots, if you have an underslung tank suspended by straps, give them a regular check as they are often coated in chipguard type rubberised paint. Its godawful stuff and basically allows the straps to rot away with no outward signs of a problem.

See, I have an lpg underslung tank and the same heater and i find it okay for heat, I'm well insulated small van, but i couldn't rely on it to be toasty warm in winter. Have you tried yours with calor cylinder because the manual says it runs not as hot on lpg petrol station compared to calor cylinder. I'm beginning to think is mine faulty but it's newish and does give heat, just not toasty warm.

Contact propex, they're a very helpful bunch. I spoke to them several times when I was installing mine.

if it's any help, you should find it too hot to hold your hand in the flow of air from the outlet. a small van should get too warm for comfort

I'm guessing you have an underslung lpg tank like me. I have a propex heater hs2000 and I find the heat to be okay but not great. I checked the manual and it says the heater doesn't burn as hot when using lpg for vehicles from the pump; burns hotter with calor gas. I'm a bit gutted tbh. Is this your experience or do you have a bigger model.

Apologies for the late reply, I was in hospital when you posted this and just catching up.

The heat output from Propane and Butane is very similar:

Propane is 19768 BTU/lb
Butane is 19494 BTU/lb

Butane tends to burn with a hotter flame, given the right conditions, but I don't think you'd notice it that much on a blown warm air system.

The 1600 in the trailer gets it up to temperature pretty quickly, we can't run it continuously as it just gets too warm.

Check that you are recirculating the heated air and not drawing cold in all the time. The combustion air and exhaust are separate, the exhaust must not be too close to windows or vents.
