Esparcher night heater installation

Hi guys
After some advice on fitting my night heater in my T5. Hoping that possibly a few of you have already got 1 installed? Intend on fitting it under drivers seat. Advice im after please if anyone can help, it is a Fuel fed heater of which im hoping to T into main fuel filter suppy pipe which looks located along passenger side. My only concern was that if this low pressure side is fed by a scavenge pump in main fuel tank will the heater eventually drain the fuel pipe or will fuel be sucked up through scavenge pump itself?
I would rather get my heater supply from somewhere that wont run dry aswell as give me starter issues next day.
Any advice be greatly recieved. Thanks in advance.

You need to remove the fuel tank and fit a stand pipe in the inspection cap in the top of the tank. This seems to be the only way as its a pressurised tank. My heater like most T5's is behind the floor plate underneath the van the return air drawn from the drivers door footwell. Have a look or join the VW T4 / 5 Forum for loads of threads on installing g Eberspachers some with photos.

Thanks for advice. Yes already a member of T4/T5 forum. Not come across the Esparcher threads but will now look.

It will be worth the effort to fit a dip pipe. then you can set the level of pick up and make sure you don't inadvertently run your tank dry. it also keeps your two fuel feeds separate so one can not effect the other. As Alf says I would mount outside underneath the van and save the space inside.

Thanks for all the info guys. Always willing to ask advice if im unsure of something as this has proven. A stand pipe makes sense and will eliminate my concerns piping into fuel system. Thanks again everyone.

Before you go buying a standpipe, a lot of modern vans already have a fuel take off point on the fuel tank sender, you just need to buy a suitable kit which consists of a small pipe with a seal and a push it connector that fits to the nipple already on the sender, the last two transits I've done I managed by just lowering the rear of the tank, you just need to cut the sealed top off the nipple to allow you to drop the small pipe and seal into before pushing the connector on, I got the kits from Butlertechnik after checking it out it seems it looks like the kit you probably need is a standpipe kit Eberspacher VW T5 T6 Fuel Tank Sender connector Standpipe Kit | E7162

Have you ever thought of fitting a small tank and running red un taxed diesel. It will save you the bother and save you money!

From all the information I have read it needs the tank either lowering or removing it a under pressure tank and needs a stand pipe as in the BT link.

You are right as I found out when following my own link, seems a while since i needed to fit a standpipe as all the recent fits I've done have been on Transits, Merc Sprinters and VW Crafters all using the the small push fit kits etc that fit to the nipple already provided on the tank senders

Quite a few T5s have a Webasto ThermoTop Engine Preheater fitted (if there is one, there should be a sticker on the Drivers Door, and a short exhaust will be visible on the passenger side around the B Pillar line if you look under the vehicle.

If you DO have one of these, it is very easy to Tee off the fuel feed to this heater to the Eberspacher pump.

What age of Sprinter have you done? Wondering if my 2003 LT (so like a Sprinter Mk 1) would have a ready to use feed nipple?

You'd need to use a lot to make it worthwhile. Red diesel isn't that much cheaper in small quantities, and less easy to get.

It shouldn't cost much for a little tank, it could even be plastic.
Regarding getting red. As a trucker, I have seen it all over the place. Baotyards, Farm suppliers, country garages!
And if you get stuck.just put the normal diesel in!
It is just an alternative option!

What's the point the van has a 90 litre diesel tank already just needs the correct stand pipe the van is only a small van room is at a premium. Why waste time

last two were a while back now can't remember what years they were but can't find anything like the push on kits on the website for the LT or earlier sprinters etc, the ones I did were ex ambulance service so might have been specials, although some of the earlier model sprinter / crafters did have a take off point on the sender you still needed to remove the sender to fit a pipe on the inside instead of drilling the tank and fitting the standard metal standpipe. It's worth phoning Butlertecknik for advice etc.

The genuine tanks are plastic and not very cheap, Butler have them at just under £70 although probably plenty of cheap copies on the bay,
