Cheers, it had to be somewhere!

I think the wiring in the box at the moment - several mains cables from the MCB's - is for various different things i.e. sockets, heater, fridge, batt charger...

Edit, there is another diagram further on that shows more appliances - there is an electric fire and 230v lights on one of the models.

Yes, it's not ideal. I would hope that as it's factory made there would be ferrules crimped on the end of the wires to help reduce the risk. Like these:

You can get them to fit more wires in the same tube.

As for regs and number of wires - we make use of ring circuits for sockets, so will always have 2 at least. It is also acceptable to take another wire direct from the MCB as a spur to feed something else, so that totals 3. As long as it's done properly they won't come out.

Actually, I think I've found a diagram.

https://www.bailey-parts.co.uk/HandbookDetails.aspx?Model=H01H&Type=S

Select service manual, 2007, discovery 5, mercury and the diagram is on page 17. It might be easier to save a copy of the PDF as it opens in a small frame.

If it's the right one, there is just one 2 pin plug with red and black wires. These should connect to the battery and you'll be away.

Fantastic steve, well done your a life saver - all i need now is someone who know's what there doing to wire the god dam thing up properly ha ha ..

it does look a mess inside, all the cables looped over and over..

ps is that elddis zig unit any good ?

It was a link to the picture within image tags. What a petty looser. Ah well...

Radials i'll do sometimes, ring allows 2.5mm2 to be fused at 32a. Less circuits for a given number of sockets. A basic house would potentially only have 4 circuits in total. Maybe a 5th for a bigger cooker.

i have tried explaining ring mains to european electricians, but they couldn't grasp the concept, as for 100 amp fuses ..... !

That sounds spot on to me David.
Although just had a rental house rewired and I noticed that they have now, under the current regulations, stopped using ring mains.
Wonder how many people will be out of work if they stop PAT testing in the UK?
Do they have PAT in France? is it an 'Europe wide directive?'

I like network cables being compulsory. I've fitted it a couple of times, but people don't seem to realise how useful it is. Until the wireless gets ruined by next doors doorbell or something lol.

The lightning thing worries me, and I think the only truly effective thing is a proper lightning conductor. Your strike didn't sound like fun David!
