Air Outlet/inlet sizes also often vary between same kW rated units ....A continuation to this thread, I had to stop work on my daughters van build day before yesterday to fit a new Chinese diesel heater to Sons T5, I had already fitted a 2kw heater using a shop bought chassis mounting specifically for T5s.
About 3 months ago it ceased to work and gave an error code of 09 no matter what I did it gave this code even after I put a new mother board in, so we went on Amazon and purchased a new unit for £76.
On jacking up and supporting the vehicle
I removed the unit complete with the chassis mount took the old unit off the mount and opened up the Amazon parcel to find the the mounting details off both the old and new units were identical but the physical size of the units were different. The outlet and inlets were much bigger on the new 5kw and so my first thought that it would be a quick change over of the units fell at the first fence. I had to enlarge the intake and exit holes in the van to accommodate the larger pipe work and vents with all that entails in opening up a previous hole size .
However having done that I used the same led monitor and remote plus the same pump so no need to muck around with the electrics the plug on the 5kw plugged into the 2kw wiring with no problem.
After a couple of minutes pumping diesel through she fired up and worked perfectly.
I have to say that this unit was the quietest unit I've fitted.
I suppose the purpose of this post is to warn others that the 5 and 8kw units are the same size but the 2kw is considerably smaller and use different vent pipe sizes but the physical fitting is identical. Phil.
Below is the link to the Amazon one which for the price is exceptional value.

P.s. It's even cheaper at the moment than when I bought ours.
Yes I agree about 5 and 8kw units being too much for smaller vehicles but if only using it on the first setting its fine. A lot of people say don't use them on low settings as they soot up quickly. But I've watched utube videos from testers of these units and they have proved this to be a myth and certainly other 5kw units that I've fitted have now been working for in some cases 3 years without problems. Usually between @75mm and @90mm ...
75mm can lead to overheat faults if ducting runs are too long ...
In my experience the @75mm is a hangover from 2kw models ...
As soon as you go to 5/8kw models the 75mm is too small ....
5~8kw models are too large IMHO for a smaller especially IF they don't have a functioning stat .
It could be the numbers game, the more you can automatically make, the more the costs are reduced.Yes I agree about 5 and 8kw units being too much for smaller vehicles but if only using it on the first setting its fine. By the by 2kw heaters for an odd reason are always far more expensive, it must be for marketing purposes as the cost of manufacture must surly be less as the materials used are less?
