Cheap inverters

Ron Bones

Hey all, after already forking out for a sterling 300w inverter (not cheap) I've decided that I actually need something bigger, 1000w I recon.

I can't afford a branded one like sterling again so I'm after some advice or a recommendation please.

Seems to be loads on ebay ranging from £30 to £150, 1000w pure sine. I just don't know what's any good.

I don't even need pure sine as I'm only using it for kitchen appliances, blender, juicer etc and shaving my head one a month!

Thanks in advance.

You say only kitchen appliances but if they have a digital control such as a bread maker they make a horrible buzzing on a non sine wave inverter, don't know if it would have worked as unplugged it as didn't want to ruin the breadmaker.

Inverters

Hi,
Inverters are a minefield, we bought some 1000watt inverters off E Bay that wouldn't even work 3 or 4 light bulbs. Now use a company called Caravan Technology. 1000watt inverter about £100. Had no problems so far and I have bought 10 from them. Did have a faulty one once, changed it no problem. We run these also on the motor home and have been doing so in the house in Spain for 12yrs. They do what says on the tin. Hope this is of use. Always next day delivery.

I've only used the cheap modified sine wave invertors in the last 3 motorhomes we've owned they have worked perfectly on everything other than the wife's electric toothbrush, one blew the charger.

I have just bought a Sterling 1600w pure sine wave to replace my 1000w so if you are interested in a used one I am taking a 1000w Nikkai inverter out later this week, it is the same as this one, I will be advertising it later for £30 but you can see it working and test your appliances on it, I am not far from you

edit: I have just checked and it is 800w continuous not 1000w, it runs Maggy's hairdryer, 500w microwave and 900w kettle without problems though

Terry I put a 12v isolator switch on the new Sterling 1600w PSW inverter and every time I used the switch an alarm went off! It turns out it was the low voltage alarm being driven by the capacitors. It silenced itself when the juice ran out!

Yes John my Nikkai one did the same, I fitted the same battery isolator switch as you and everytime we switched it off you could just hear a faint alarm, lasted for 3-5 secs then OK, I just thought 'it is good it lets me know it is switched off ;)'

I use a cheap ebay 1500 watt cost £30 to run a 500 watt hairdryer and a low wattage blender, I run the engine when it's on :)

An interesting note here that i thought i would give a go today.
This afternoon i decided to try my wifes 700 watt hairdryer on my Durite 500 watt continuous pure sine inverter.
I did this as a lot of devices run at lower than stated wattage rates.
It ran without any problems at all.
