I got same van (LWB Transit Mark 6 2.4 TD duratorq) and experienced that same joy.
Although I was told it was a chain? But that it would probably never need changing and very unlikely to ever fail.
So I totally get it
Btw, the body panel seams leak so worth sealing them with Sikaflex; you'll probably need a new clutch between 50k and 100k and need to replace old clutch with a dual mass flywheel - or something similar sounding; it also leaks around the top of the windscreen, took me ages to trace it to rusty edges around windscreen; the sills rust in 5 mins so look after them, keep them treated and painted and clean; keep a close look at the floor in the rear corners, right up inside from underneath, that's where it'll rot; keep a largish flat edge screwdriver handy for when the bonnet latch breaks; check your spare wheel mechanism regularly and keep well greased otherwise it jams and you end up having to cut the cable to release it and a new mechanism and cable costs £70; the front wings will rust just in front of the new wheels from the inside - you can get a new pair from ebay for £35 so don't waste too much time treating and repairing this; I do around 450 - 600 miles to a full tank, much less if I drive over 60mph when it just guzzles fuel...
I've also learned that as it's RWD I can skid right round a roundabout in it on an icy night, and that I should not reverse onto ground which is a little bit wet or muddy but should keep rear wheels on good solid ground....
But I love my Transit, it's surprising easy to drive once you've adjusted to the size of the vehicle, it's got a good turning circle and if you don't mind keeping to 55/60 mph the fuel consumption isn't too bad although I haven't worked it out but guessing around 30mpg :drive:
