After 8 years of faithful service, my 'Millie' is starting to show her build age in one or two places the most recent one of which is the mixer tap fitted to the shower room sink.

The pig tails from the tap are 8mm copper whereas the plastic pipe is 10mm plastic. Back in 2013/14 when I built her, despite searching I wasn't able to find any suitable reducers available where I was then living in Wales so I used my noddle box and came up with a bodge that has lasted up until last week!

So kind soles which fitments are now available for a 8mm copper to 10mm plastic water pipe connection? I have found several but they are all for pneumatic connections, my question is, woulld these be suitable for water pipes?

Many thanks

Phil

Hi Phil,
I'm almost certain that in the past I've used pneumatic fittings on water systems when doing builds as I remember having the same quandary as you are having. When you think about it if something is air tight it is most usually also water tight as air is far less dense than water.
10mm plastic don't you mean 12mm? Or have you used 10mm rigged plastic pipe?
Phil.

P.s. some suppliers I remember advertised the same fitments as air or liquid fittings and others did not mention fluid just mentioned air/ pneumatic usually because they only dealt in pneumatics and so didn't see the point in saying they were suitable for water/fluid.

Many thanks Phil, I have now bought both the 8/10 reduction connectors as well as some more 10/10 connectors from Amazon with delivery tomorrow. Yes a slight cost premium over eBay, however the speed of delivery for me is far more important.

The next job for me is to prepare the 8mm pig-tails in readiness for the new connectors as well as boiling the tap in neat white vinegar to get rid of any of the built up lime scale that was in it............... Next to no time to do this all in as we are off again at the end of next week to sunny Wiltshire.

Phil
