    Yes, well if you think about it, that's what is attached to the petrol engine on a portable generator. This technique could be used by campers using large commercial vehicles where there is enough room in the engine bay to fit additional equipment. :juggle::juggle::juggle:

    One point to observe is the engine oil level. If the oil level is rising then it is very likely that diesel fuel is going past the pistons and into the sump. A high oil level is very risky and can lead to the diesel turbo burning its own sump oil and engine runaway. Leaving the van engine...

    Yes you could just run the engine, and then keep it running for an extra half hour afterwards. An uprated alternator would also come in very handy. :tongue::tongue::tongue:

    Not really you need a lot of energy to heat hot water, even with a 12 volt immersion heaters that you can use to heat a mug of water take a while. Its well worth using any excess power to ensure the starter battery is kept topped up. :hammer::hammer::hammer:
