    Floor construction

Just to illustrate how very durable these 25mm thick sheets of foil faced closed cell foam is, over the past 6 years I have been using a quite large piece of it to use as an insulation between me and the floor, be that smooth concrete, gravel, soil or grass and it is still almost like new...

    Floor construction

Possibly just like you, I did the floor like I did last time so that I could have an access channel running across the van to run gas, water and electrics which I suppose you could do without the lengthwise battens, so I suppose it could easily work doing it your suggested way.... fingers...

    Floor construction

I laid my 25mm Cellotex directly onto the ridged floor of the van and then laid the 12mm marine ply on top, mind you I also had put in some front to back 25mm roofing lath battens which I had glued to the raised ridges of the floor. Not exactly what you are wanting to do Phil, but over almost 6...

    New build Sis-in-Laws Motorhome

Phil, I know your feelings and thoughts about gluing on major items and respect your thoughts on the matter......... However, my major concern with using any of these adhesives in the current weather conditions is that surely don't most of the user instructions on them suggest they are for...

    New build Sis-in-Laws Motorhome

Phil; does that foam force/push under the Heki once it is in-place or do you lay it in place then clamp the rooflight down? I presume it is some kind of closed cell foam, or is it something else and quite magical, because if it works it could be the answer to the needs of the self builder. Phil

    New build Sis-in-Laws Motorhome

As I have often said, I would so love to build another one, but my most beloved keeps telling me "over her dead body"! However Phil, budget or not, I honestly can't understand people with even the tightest budget not fitting insulated windows, as, and as we both know, it can get darned hot or...

TOTALLY unrelated to self building, but one for a Guru

Thanks for that Derek, I hadn't thought of doing it that way drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (!), a new hook up type connection is now under way. Phil

TOTALLY unrelated to self building, but one for a Guru

Hello Derek; The throw out switch on the consumer unit is a 32 amp. I have thought about converting the connection to a hookup type socket and wall point, however as I would still have to have a 3 pin plug on the cars cable (just in case I ever want to use it when I am away from home), there...

TOTALLY unrelated to self building, but one for a Guru

Hello Mark; the standard cable the car is supplied with is for use with 13 amp sockets, which I can only presume has something in cars plug end which sets the charging rate? You can of course buy other cables from BMW for the higher powered charging points but they cost an eye watering amount...

TOTALLY unrelated to self building, but one for a Guru

I can confirm that all the connections are very tight, my only thought is that whereas the body of the waterproof (Chinese manufactured) socket is of amazing quality, I do believe that the socket itself is a bit naff! So, unless I install a very high powered system and remain with a standard 3...

TOTALLY unrelated to self building, but one for a Guru

I have recently bought a BMW 225XE phve and love it ! My question is that I am charging it at home on the supplied 13amp lead and have installed a special 13 amp external socket which now has a stand alone earthing spike fitted with a 5 mm cable along with the existing 2 mm earthing cable. The...

Winter project fiat ducato 2011 120 multi jet

If that roof is flat, then if it were me I would bond 1 or 2 layers of 25mm Cellotex (or similar) to it. I suggest 25mm as it is very slightly flexible and as such it should be able to bond thoroughly to the outer skin and as such make it far stronger, it is then easy to bond wood veneer or...

Serco Prison Van - any other owners on here?

Ouch, that's a bit cruel oh wise one... The Iveco is an absolutely brilliant van to convert, but prior to starting, from what I know of them, make absolutely certain that any and all of the dreaded tin eating monster worm (rust) has been well and truly treated and eradicated. I agree 100% with...

    Bloody Stixall Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

I have worked on enough flimsy British built caravans over the years to know to never trust or use mastic and then like a total prat I go and use the blessed stuff! I have now decided to do as my old mate Squiffy did, I will do a very thorough check of the roof, the bonding and the condition of...
