    Damn, so sorry honey

Oh dear, that’s a bit painful. That’s the problem with camo paint jobs, walls don’t see you coming!

    Converting 12/24 volt Fluorescent Lamps

Haha, I like my new epithet, Red! Your description of your workbench is exactly how I’d describe mine! I’ve been promising myself a day to sort the workshop out, even with all the time in lock down, I somehow managed to avoid facing the daunting task.... I’m halfway through decorating the house...

    Converting 12/24 volt Fluorescent Lamps

Looking good. Why are you frightened to touch it now? Short of a wiring grommet in the case, looks great. I bought some plug together led lighting strips from Lidl some time ago. They were wired to a mains adapter, though the lights themselves are 12v dc. Cut off the adapter and threw it away...

About to fit the gas system to the van

It’s going to hold even less Debs, it’s too long so will have to cut a couple of feet off!......

About to fit the gas system to the van

This is the entire gas system for the van! I did have a piece of pipe in the shed, but on inspection it was twenty eight years old! As much as it pained me, I splashed out on a new length... New clips too!

I’m not sure my recent joining of the forum will be popular with many builders. There are so many top end high finish vans that my bodge on wheels will bring the tone of the site down. The thing is, I’ve built a couple of beautifully finished vans in years past, which were sold more or less on...

    The Red Beast

Determined to get the van finished, a wee break in the weather and I got the carpet in and the table leg socket fitted. Also fitted some turnbuckles, a pack of twenty for a fiver off eBay. They’re marketed as birdcage door catches!

    Hello from the Highlands!

Only two things to worry about Debs, the damn covid thing and the weather! The winter is a beautiful time of year here, (well, it’s always a beautiful time of year here) the cold clear nights give such a view into space. Some years ago my old mum and dad came to live with me, they were...

    The Red Beast

Good luck with the dvla, there doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason to their decision making these days. Us mere mortals must bow to the unquestionable daftness that is ‘what exactly is a motorcaravan in the eyes of the dvla? I wish they’d tell us! Good luck with the rest of your build...

Bend plastic 10mm panel to fit curved wall

Ha! Wish I’d thought of your idea before I built my bathroom..... look forward to seeing more pics as you get further along.

No system of quality control, typo!

    Smug or what?

It really is shameful in this day and age that some builders appear to have system of quality control. I forgot to mention. after using the swivel on the front passenger seat and returning it to the forward position, the van wouldn’t start. The sensor cable has pulled itself apart as the loom...

    Smug or what?

Absolutely, over the years I’ve done four. The previous three were VWs, this is my first big one and basically decided that it would have a fitted king size bed, the rest of it is just the necessary propaganda! I couldn’t be arsed with this van, so went for a simple quick rough build..... two...

    Smug or what?

Disappointed? My own van is deffo my last build, get my pension next year! As to help, my bro has no diy skills and pretty autistic in character, although good at electronics. He’s in his seventies and I suspect wanted to get on with enjoying his van. The other overriding factor is that he can...

    Smug or what?

He did his homework before buying and has been both somewhat shocked and disappointed. It’s a high spec van with some quality fittings, just seems thrown together. Another example of the sloppy build was the pleated windscreen blind had sections that hadn’t been threaded through the bottom guide...

    Smug or what?

I shouldn’t be smug really, just can’t help it... My bro bought a brand new pv motorhome last month. It cost him pennies short of £60k. It’s a British built conversion on a Ducato base. He’s been promising himself a van for a long time and certainly doesn’t have the skills to build. I was...
