Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

When the BMV's relay is grounding the Cyrix (BMV relay energised) the NC contact could be floating, would a pull-up resistor on the on the NC help? 10K is always a starting point. A bit "suck it and see".

What current draw is there when it has no load on the output?

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

I had considered about 80% as my AGM starts to tail off then as it's going into Absorption (I think), perhaps higher when I've checked. I use these, very accurate or a wide range. Add an ADC and a Wemos D1 Mini and it's on your WiFi :)...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

I've seen the Bestek on Amazon for about £30. I do prefer pure-sine, the Victron ones take my eye, quite efficient, good ECO mode and I think they can be paralleled (so long as the first 3 or 4 digits are the same).

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Yes but it's not 240 W all the time and if 400 Watt's of Solar Panels are sat there doing nothing and there's enough sun to get 240 W, think of the gas I'm saving and the diesel I'm saving not having to drive to the garage to refill the bottle. I used the fridge as a load as I was trying the...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Just add a little worthless information, our motorhome has a Thetford Fridge Freezer model: lN3150 (Warning, never buy a Thetford). This is a 3 way fridge/freezer unit with separate freezer compartment. I haven't measured DC current whilst driving, but today while working on the AC part of my...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

I see a circuit diagram coming 😁. Great to see somebody who thinks outside the box and then has a go. As one who was always told "you can't do that" it made me more determined. Love it.

The Americans can get a second alternator for their "Promaster" https://www.thefitrv.com/rv-tips/our-generator-free-rv-lithium-battery-solar-alternator-and-inverter/ I won't need any of this as my mind is NOW made up, 60 Amp B2B and a RB100-D

Ah, 100 Amp max but 50 Amp recommend. Thanks for clarifying.

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

David, interesting results, I'm not surprised but most of your results. I didn't know the RB100 had a maximum recommended charge current of 50 Amps. So does this take us back to the B2B thread? Without some form of charge current limit a Religion LiFePo4 battery could accept damaging charge...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

We have a Nordelettronica controller, although it works OK I have noticed that the Solar can charger the Leisure battery to 100% and that on starting the engine the Leisure battery discharges a few percent into to the slightly depleted Starter battery. Obviously the SCR in the Nordelettronica...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

Small cable! equals reduction in warranty claims for failed alternators, good ploy. Nice to see graphs, one day David we'll find something you don't have a graph for ;-) . Good point regards low voltage dropout of VSR/B2B.

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

Just my thoughts as I follow this post closely. The alternator fitted to Fiats may (may not) have thermal control which protects itself against failure due to overheating as per the video. Now imagine the day when your Leisure battery is discharged to its lowest SOC. It's cold and your Starter...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

@wildebus David, that looks very good to me, thanks for taking the time to test this and publish your results. So, say you have a low SOC on your leisure battery and you start your days travel. The Cyrix carries all the charging current from the alternator, this could be for a reasonable...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

I've a Varta AGM, my Victron 100/30 is set to Absorption 14.8 volts (as data sheet). This would have been a bit high for the Starter Battery but that's now sorted with the Ablemail AMT.

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

Nice to see some data David. Solar peaking at a little over 25 Amps? Do you think there was any gain in State Of Charge? Just wondering if you can heat your water and at the end of the days drive and have a 100% SOC and a tank of hot water. That one of my ambitions (while doing only about 150...

    Frigid fiddling's

Winter 2018/2019 we were in Albuferia, Portugal. Us and 4 others with Thetford fridge freezers suffered a similar problem. The fridge would display normal operation, no error messages on the front panel but we found more than once that the units had failed and all the frozen good had thawed...
